Does the PN need an aircraft carrier?

No ACs...
More Submarine Forces..
More Credible Surface ships comprised of modern Destroyers and Frigates
Chinese AWACS
3 dedicated high-tech Fighter Squadrons
-----------------------
The idea of AC is out of question but if someone of thinking of sort of Merchant Aircraft Carrier or Simplest form of AC; 24 knots-approx 27,000-30,000 tons..with many modifications of today's aircraft carriers...that is viable but still requires funds..
we are not short of concepts we're short of funds perhaps after 2030..but still i would prefer large #Ghost Hounds aka Attack submarine Forces to the extend you haunt your enemy.

1 AC cost vs you can get 4/5 top notch subs thus subs makes better Force multiplier

Does Pakistan 'need' an aircraft carrier group? Look at the US for example. If there is great enough of Pakistani overseas interests that warrant military protection, and that this protection must be available at any time when said interests are threatened, then of course Pakistan need an aircraft carrier force. US aircraft carrier battle groups do not loiter off US coasts.

...and that is not the case!

we dont neeed aircraft carrier we should go for destroyers and frigates supported by submarines n fast attack boats n corvets and ofcourse mine hunter/counter measure vessels pluse anti-sub choppers
2 fighter squdrons

Let us analyze threat scenario to Pakistan. Defense expenditure and priorities are set by the threat perception.

Main threat today in from the Islamic jihadis. For these you don’t need any naval assets. What is needed is a rapid reaction air mobile strike force.

Main external threat remains from India. They have evolved a cold start doctrine which is basically that Indian Army captures sufficient land mass of Pakistan in a lightening strike before Pakistan can react to retaliate with nukes. Subsequently, use this as a bargaining tool to make Pakistan to accept a “Versailles’ type treaty that was forced on Germany after the WWI. For this Pakistan needs a strong land army with credible air defense. Also nukes should be spread out to survive first strike. Naval defense can be carried out by submarines, surface vessels and land based aircraft.

There is a possible threat that US Navy may strike Pakistan’s nuke assets if she feels that these are going fall into wrong hands. They will use carrier based aircraft and submarine/ship based cruise missiles. An aircraft carrier will help in this scenario. But with overwhelming superiority of the US Navy, one would not be enough. A better and cheaper alternative would still be a significant missile firing Naval Strike Aircraft force and state of the art hunter killer submarines.

There is a remote threat of air attack on our nuclear assets by Israel. A land attack from Iran, no matter how remote cannot be ruled out all together. You don’t need aircraft carrier to counter either of these threats because Israel doesn’t have a very strong navy and Iran can be taken care off thru land based assets. Besides, Pakistan has no off shore interest of the kind that would need protection by a floating air base.

Finally, no nation (not even US) has infinite resources. Pakistan on the other hand is literally broke. Therefore we have to” cut our coat according to our clothes’. Let me repeat what a retired UK Naval Commodore (my bridge partner a few years back) used to say.

Quote

If I only have one Pound to spend on the navy; I would spend it on mine hunters, if I have another Pound, I would spend it on maritime reconnaissance assets, if I have still another Pound; I would spend it on the submarines. Surface vessels come next and an aircraft carrier the distant last.

Unquote

Pakistan hasn’t got a lot of money to spend on the navy, so why waste time with this pointless debate about the need of an aircraft carrier.

Sir niaz has made it perfectly clear in a very convincing way.
It sums up nicely.

Pakistan knows that you are not going to attack Pakistan 100% So first Pakistan will make her Airforce powerfull enough to deter any IAF aggression, then we come to Navy but trust me Pakistan is a country of surprises, if we can lock you latest fighter jets with F7s then Gid bless you, English says that you never underestimate your enemy and i have seen that alot in India, well thats also an advantege of Pakistan, Lastly PN will be even more stronger and will become a offensive force when it needed to be, Buddy just relext and show your hate of Pakistan at Indian forum. Some times i laugh my butt of after looking at your guys, USA being the only super power never ects like this the way Indian does its pretty funny, The REALS dont talk they walk and wanna be's just talk:cheers::pakistan::china:

:rofl: pakistan f-7 lock on latest indian fighter...relax buddy..grow up, its gud to be patriotic but be sensible and talk mature..why all u guys acts like this..im pretty sure that one day u guys will even says that even ur attack helo's had a lock on Su-30mki..

the F-7s did in fact have your Migs painted......It came as standard exercise quite frankly; invading enemy aircrafts were forced to flee, PAF pilots showed a lot of mercy.

There is plenty of information on this incident, in this very forum. Use the search function.

And before you do that, give an introduction to yourself before you begin posting on here.

Your cooperation is most appreciated. Thanks.

F7s took down many indian Aircrafts and secondly SU 30 and MIG 29 are basically working as Defense FOR india or for carrying out high value target missions not for going in to fight like MIG 21 and Mirages ... It is just a basic military thought Keep the strong hold strong ... Have you heard of any Su 30 involved in Kargil conflicts ... you should first know the meaning of multi role fighter , interceptor and strike fighter then come back laughing ... Third india has Half of the Airforce deployed on Chinese border and lacks 200-300 Aircrafts...I hope you have heard that saying bigger they are harder they fall ... In case of india call it a huge Land mass ..

waste of money - a carrier group (a carrier by itself means nothing) is way way beyond anything pakistan can afford - please remember we have to add VAT under IMF's draconian conditions jsut to keep the country solvent!

and the electricity crisis needs billions immediately - forget about carriers and 40 year US "frigates" - just spend on education and electricity and economy...

PN does not have the best of diesel electric submarines and neither plenty of them. The Augusta 90B's are the only ones in the PN's inventory that can be classified as good, and there are just three of them. The presence of 10 Kilo class submarines with the IN alone are more than a match for the PN submarine fleet as well as its surface fleet. The arrival of P8I's in a couple of years is likely to alter this balance more in the IN's favor.

i hate to say this but our kilo class submarines are pathetic.. they have such a clear and prominent radar signature u have to be blind to miss them. with modern radars takin them out is a peice of cake...
ur augusta's fair better in stealth capabilities which is the main weapon of a submarine...

and u guys don need an aircraft carrier... ur prime targets are well in range of ur jetcrafts... and an aircraft carrier isnt exactly an aboode of power. it has its own strategic place... jus coz its expensive duzn mean it can take out an entire fleet...
:hang2:
in the naval world only a submarine has the true capablity of takin out an entire navy, not an AC...

Dear friend, does your navy sail its Kilo class submarines mainly surfaced?

.
I dont think we need any aircraft carrier. Basically aircraft carriers are for power projection only and in case of large coastline areas. We should better invest in submarines, naval surface fleets and land based fighter aircrafts.
