Does Sri Lanka need a Bridge link between India and Sri Lanka? NO! But India does

The highway to India is Ranil's idea. He is the one who wanted it and no doubt he raised with India.

LOL The most desperate liar is now trying to re-write history! Ranils idea indeed, good to know that ranil was the one who controlled the country from 2009 to 2014.
After running around the forum spamming BS from a comedy page called Jool and when it is proven a lie you re-write history

People like you who suckle at Ranil's teat are also trying to deflect the issue after seeing the reaction.

If anyone's licking a toilet, it is you and the rest of the UNP supporters.

Get your Christian priests and your church to do the same.

As I said the least intelligent troll ever, totally irrelevant religious attacks that I don't even give a damn about

Instead of howling like a baboon with a sore bottom, why don't you do your research:

Land bridge useful to India & Lanka: Ranil

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Saturay said the proposed land bridge between Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu and Talaimannar in Sri Lanka would be a major step for sub-regional economic integration even as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had opposed it.

He came out in support for this project while delivering the 14th ‘Millennium Lecture’ organised jointly by the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) and the Hindu Media Resource Development Centre at MSSRF here on Saturay.

Advocating that the two countries could not escape the phenomenon of a global economy if they were to achieve this objective, he said the land bridge, added to road and rail links, would offer both sides of Palk Straits huge economic benefits.

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s stress on the land bridge link comes in the wake of opposition to it by Jayalalithaa.

He said the land bridge coupled with the Sethu Samudram project would be of advantage to both countries for greater access to sea lanes and competition in port and sea freight services.

Wickremesinghe said the land bridge would greatly reduce the cost of moving goods in both directions and encourage trade in a wide range of goods and services, currently unviable.

However, during the 2002-2004 Peace Process, the then Lankan Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, asked India to help build what he called the “Hanuman Bridge.” The Lankan side envisaged a four-lane highway with a parallel single rail track. The Lankan Board of Investment (BOI) fixed the cost at LKR 88 billion (USD 654 million at the present exchange rate).

"After winning the presidential election I will meet the Indian President and his government and discuss the possibility of constructing the bridge between Talaimannar and India, which even the Indian government is interested in. It will also help to increase solidarity between the two countries" said the leader of the opposition Ranil Wickramasinghe MP addressing a public rally held at the free trade zone on Sunday organised by the Biyagama electorate organiser Ruwan Wijewardena.

The current Sri Lankan government is filled with Sinhala Christian extremists like you. Before you get a big head just understand your community is a pissy little minority outnumbered even by Tamil Christians.

.
The Colombo Metropolitan area has a GDP of $48 billion, making it the core of the Sri Lankan economy. The per capita income of Colombo Metro area stood at US$8623 and purchasing power per capita of $25,117, making it one of the most prosperous regions in South Asia considering Western Province contribute for 50% of GDP in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has GDP of $ 60 bn, Population is 20 million.
Colombo has GDP of $ 48 bn, Population is 0.6 million

This means 19.4 million Sri lnkan's have GDP of $ 12 bn

This shows huge economic disparity and this is clearly visible in Sri Lanka (very small area and population). Except for few parts of Colombo, Majority of Sri Lanka is just some third world town.

When compared to Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala, Goa, Pondicherry, Chandigarh, etc. Indian has more population enjoy better standard of living and better HDI. Even Chennai has more population enjoying quality life than Colombo (just 0.6 million out of 20 million)

Thats because most of the people working in Colombo live in the suburbs or are from other areas temporarily living in Colombo for work during the war lots of Cement and chemical factories in the Northern areas were destroyed ,Sri Lanka's largest saltern was abandoned so industries only developed in a few areas and Colombo was the biggest one

.
SL is an Island, connecting with India will connect SL to rest of Asia. Trade becomes easier. It is a few who are unhappy with the link.

Yes. Only India will benefit by the land link. On the long run SL will become another state of India.

.
India does not "need" a bridge.Sri Lanka is a very small market, comparable to megacities like Delhi

Thats why SL doesn't need the bridge now it will be useful by 2040s when SL have enough industries so Indian imports doesn't crush SL industries

Your leader Ranil was screaming for it back in 2002. He is in power now.

.
South Asian media always exaggerate things. Even if both parties agree, neither one has capabilities nor money to manage such a project. India is all about talk.

This costs 5.19 Billion dollars....:) and india has already asked for ADB's financial support. If the SLG hasnt given nod why would Indian minister try to gain ADB's funds for this?

Yes, media always exaggerate, but gindara nathuwa duma pita wenne nane....

What kind of industries would we have?

. .
look at Singapore, they export more than they import without being overwhelmed by the malaysian economy. SL can do better

We cannot emulate Singapore.

1) Colombo nor H'tota is the only big harbor in the IOR.
2) Full tonnage of Indian exports do not pass through Sri Lanka.
3) Colombo harbor's growth potential is limited. Only H'tota can handle big container tonnage when fully developed.
4) The uncertainty of the future of H'tota project

Singapore is a unique success story. It cannot be used for every country. What is possible for us to emulate is the success of Malaysia.

We cannot emulate anyone ,Sri Lanka should develop the Sri Lankan way

. .
It was you who dragged Singapore. I asked you what is our way according to you.

I didn't drag Singapore I only pointed out how Singaporean economy is not crushed by the bigger Malaysian one.
You are the one who said that we should emulate Malaysia, I didn't say we should emulate anyone.
