Does Pakistan has own Multiple Rocket System

Pakistan Ordnance Factories and French Company signs MOU on rocket technology

Pakistan Ordnance Factories and a French company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on upgrading the capabilities of 122 mm rockets used by the Pakistani armed forces on the sidelines of the Defence Systems and Equipment International Exhibition which opened in East London Tuesday.

The MOU was signed on behalf of POF by its chairman Lt.General Shujaat Zamir Dar and by David Quancard, president, Roxel company, which is a leading French company dealing in rocket technology. Federal Minister for Defence Production Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi was also present on the occasion.

The contract when materialised will help Pakistan armed forces to enhance the firing range of the present stock of 122 mm rockets in its arsenal from its current range of 20 kilometres to 40 km and beyond.

The French company chief sales executive Francis Rodriguez speaking to the media said the present Pakistani rockets are equipped with the Russian technology and are quite outdated and once actual agreement is signed with his company, the induction of new technology will not only increase the range but make the weapon more lethal and effective.

He said POF is manufacturing defence equipment of international standard and his company trust the Pakistan technology and is happy to assist POF in bringning further new advancements.

Rodriguez said since the induction of a democratic government in Pakistan, its relations with France has deepened and both President Asif Ali Zardari and Nicholas Sarkozy are keen to see that these are further consolidated in all fields particularly in the defence sector. France is already a major defence supplier to Pakistan including Mirage warplanes and submarines and other equipment for its forces.

The Indian Army's long-overdue plans to upgrade around 390 Bofors FH-77B 155 mm 39-calibre howitzers to 155 mm 45-calibre, stand jeopardised due primarily to the 'over-ambitious' qualitative requirements (QRs) drawn up by the artillery directorate for the retrofit.

The army first acquired the howitzers in 1987 and currently has a total of 410 in its inventory. The upgrade is intended to enhance the range of the guns, and includes replacing the gun barrel, breech block, strengthening the undercarriage and fitting the howitzers with a state-of-the-art sighting system, allowing them to fire heavier ordnance.

"Some of the upgrade QRs are unrealistic for these 25-year-old guns, demanding even more capability than newer howitzers," said an armament industry source associated with the project.

The army, he declared, was unwilling to revise or modify the request for proposals (RfP), even though many in the artillery directorate conceded that the QRs were unrealistic because only the defence minister had the authority to effect a change in the tender and they were circumspect about approaching him.

An earlier, similar RfP issued by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in 2006 lapsed unfulfilled. It required competing vendors such as BAE Systems (which now owns Bofors AB), the FH 77B's original equipment manufacturer (OEM), private defence contractor Tata of Mumbai and the state-owned Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) to develop an upgraded prototype howitzer within a year.

Guided MLRS will be the future of rockets; we dont need any more unguided ones we need to hunt down the enemy not just suppress it & targeting will be main issue for our Admirals
Furthermore I would like to be informed that French either has given has elusive access to rocket propulsion manufacturing or not??

IAI Unveils Missiles-in-a-Box for Ground Forces
By Graham Warwick
Israel Aircraft Industries has unveiled Jumper, an autonomous vertical-launch artillery missile system for ground forces, at a defense show in Latrun, Israel.Jumper consists of eight canistered missiles and a command-and-control unit housed in a 3 X 3 "hive" measuring 1.4 X 1.4 X 2m tall. No operating crew or launching platform is required, says IAI.

Weighing in at 63kg, and with a range of 50km, the tail-steered missile is 1.8m long and 150mm in diameter and has GPS/INS guidance coupled with a semi-active laser seeker. IAI says the weapon can carry "several possible warheads".Jumper is similar in concept to the NLOS-LS container-launched missile system under development by Raytheon/Lockheed Martin joint-venture NetFires. Each NLOS-LS container carries 15 GPS/INS/IIR/SAL-guided Precision Attack Missiles. Fielding by the US Army is planned for 2011

I have a confusion. Few year back I have seen 2 different pics of Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems on KRL website and as far as I remember, one system was mounted on a APC like vehicle and the name was, I think "YARMUK" while another was a Truck mount system and the name was "GAZAB" or so.
Now that weapons pics and info link of the KRL website is no more available. However we can see the remaining KRL products on IICS website, but the MRLS pics are not there.
Can any one clarify and also post the pics of Pak MRLS ?

what is IICS ?

. .
i meant that their MBRL [pinaka(214mm)range=7-40km,BM-30(300mm)range=70-90 and BM-21(122mm)range=40km] are much better than ours n their is no ways our can compete with theirs.

. .
one advantage of MLRS(depending to the rocket obviously) is it's longer range than tube artillery and can fire multiple projectile in short time(up to 40 rockets in 20 seconds),not to mention that it can blast a full area in short interval(like destroying airfield,a whole mechanized brigade, etc).rocket development saw GPS-guided rockets being introduced as well

MLRS(particularly of larger size,240mm and above) is considered as a gap filler between 155mm howitzer and short range ballistic missile.example of large caliber MLRS in asian countries' service is WS-1(china and turkey),ASTROS II(malaysia and saudi arabia),M270(japan and south korea),and HIMARS(singapore)

note that singapore acquired HIMARS because malaysian got 36 of them ASTROS II : D

.
can someone please tell me what MBRL is shown in the picture on the top of the defence.pk page?
