  The police on Thursday arrested four men from Bangladesh who were living illegally in the city. They are accused of murder and running a prostitution racket. Surprisingly, all of them have Aadhaar, voter ID and PAN cards.
  
  “The fact that people who are not Indians are able to procure these identity cards is a serious security lapse,” said a senior police officer, citing the recent case of three Pakistani nationals procuring Aadhaar cards in the city.
  
  The Pakistanis had got their Aadhaar cards based on their rental agreement and a certificate of introduction from a gazetted officer, who was arrested later.
  
  The police are trying to determine how the Bangladeshis were able to get their cards. “The men — Obimulla (26), Moin Khan (26), Rakimulla (33), and Mohammed Kislu (35) — are from Parambishnupura Narail in Bangladesh. They are said to have obtained Aadhaar, voter ID and PAN cards through one of their contacts Janardhana Reddy, who is from R.T. Nagar,” Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Hemanth Nimbalkar said. “Reddy is absconding.”
  
  The arrest of the quartet was almost serendipitous. Late Wednesday night, a crime squad attached to Hennur police station was patrolling near Agara lake when they came across a group of men whose conduct they found suspicious. When the men were unable to explain what they were doing, they were taken to the police station for further questioning.
  
  Initially, they claimed to be labourers from West Bengal and submitted ID proof. They claimed to be long-time residents of Bengaluru.
  
  But the inspector noticed that their accent was different from the way Bengali is spoken in West Bengal.
  
  “We questioned them about their family background. They started floundering with the answers. Eventually, they claimed to be residents of Bangladesh,” a senior police officer said.
  
  They had crossed the border illegally and stayed in Kolkata for some time before shifting to Bengaluru a few years ago. They lived in Varthur, Gunjur and Kadugodi before moving into a rented house in Nelamangala, from where they were allegedly running a prostitution racket by bringing women from Bangladesh.
  
  According to the police, they had even killed one of their associates, Imrul Choudary, following a row. “A murder case has been registered in Nelamangala police station,” Mr. Nimbalkar said.
