Does India need 8,000 Km Range missile?

Yes, India urgently needs a 8,000 kms missile both in land launched ICBM and SLBM capacities to take care of china from a very safe location and with sure results.

.
^^ then we will require 15,000 KM range ICBM

if we test missile with range more than 8,000 KM it will piss US and will result in lot sanctions

thus 8,000 KM range mark should not be crossed

contrary to what i heard on this forum 100s of times. "India has independent foreign policy and does not take dictates from any other country", lakin kabhi aapas main sach bhi nikal jata hay na...lol

.
India should research missiles with an even higher range. To just see the immediate threat is not a great idea. If, for example, relations with the US get thorny, development for a missile with a high range won't happen fast enough to counter the threat

.
yes we can make and we should, only a powerfull prime minister or bjp can do this,we should not care just because of of australia or uk or canada.as we were having technology of nuclear bomb but we tested when our god father soviet union disintegrated.

.
Agni V can we b used for Launch of Satellites as well.
If DRDO develops an 8000-10000 Range Missile, we can have a cost effective alternative to PSLV a well....

I guess this will be a gr8 idea to let DRDO develop a missile capable of Satellite Launches.

.
oh god agni !! by decreasing the payload weight of Agni 5.we would increase its range to 8k.eventually we have the technology to demonstrate the long range missiles.but it would cause unnecessary concerns to some nations.

.
I think SLBM with 5000 to 6000 km range is more than enough to counter each & every threat(present). We should secure our present that will automatically lead to future process.

.
Nukes are a political tool, India needs this tool in it's armory, in order to secure Indian interests, instead of buckling to US pressure. As of now, GoI cannot handle US and Chinese pressure.

for now,Handling China is more than enough..USA doesn't have much leverage on us and we don't need to be a threat for our friendly countries just for USA..

.
At first India should work on SLBM version of 6000KM and induct it and Agni-5. So all major threats will be covered. Then we can work on 8000Km+ missile.

.
I'm more interested in MIRV of Agni 1 and 2 .is their any such possibilty ?

It's very unlikely that any Indian missile will carry MIRV's any time soon, if you look Agni V's warhead it's quite cumbersome for 200kt yield weapon. Biggest difference is that India (and perhaps Israel) has never actually tested any warhead designs unlike other countries.

Agni V warhead size seen here.

US warhead sizes, look how compact W-87 is.

It's hard to tell size of DF-31's warhead because missiles shroud hides the warhead(s), but it must be smaller than what Agni V is carrying because it fit's inside that shroud.

This report from 1996 says that warhead (yield probably 300-700kt) designed for DF-31 weights around 470kg's and it's smaller than what Agni V is carrying.... Indian 200kt warhead must weight a ton or more.

The answer is really simple. Does India have the ability to know which country might be at odds with her in the future and where they will be located geographically?

.
India is capable of Building 15,000 Km+ ICBM, only thing we lacks is POLITICAL WILL.

@INI151 "50" Ton Agni V range is Disclosed, Don't be surprised if it's range exceeds 8K (8,000) km with 1 Ton Payload

.
India is capable of developing missiles that can hit targets located at more than 8,000 km away,
but choooooosss
:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

does-india-need-8-000-km-range-missile

I would say no to 8000 km ICBM but yes to 8000-10000km SLBM

India is capable of developing missiles that can hit targets located at more than 8,000 km away,
but choooooosss
Yeah, if you were following the development of Agni 5 then you would know this otherwise just get out of here, this is a place for genuine defence discussion.
