Hi,

I was just wondering----Would his name be by any chance @airomerix :enjoy::enjoy::enjoy:--- he was questioning my college university education a short time ago---.

LOL not going to get in the middle of that.

OP is right, there are segments of society who rank people only be academic attainment. Others rank them by wealth, by lineage, some fools even try by supposed piety.

Anyone who judges on the worth or value of a person on such narrow criteria is a fool.

Nope. Incorrect.

I was questioning your IQ and subsequently deduced the lack of it.

Just one of the few reasons why you couldn't attend a college and speak intelligently about issues related to security and defense (yes you do need a college education to debate on that atleast. Do give me credit for lowering the bar for you) or else you are no better than the chai wala on your east.

Now same us from your admiration for that chai wala. Please.

Obviously people that did not complete college still must have accomplishments to gain respect. It is the accomplishments of people that are noticed and appreciated. If I meet an accomplished person, and I learn they did not complete college, I respect them even more. It is more difficult to succeed in adult life if you do not have the benefit of the socially respected "degree".

People who are ill-educated respect people for education.

Education happens everywhere, and mostly outside school and colleges. What a school/college teaches is a syllabus and I want to know who among us became successful because of the memorized syllabus he had at the school. All human development and personal gain is a result of unique efforts we put outside schools. Whoever is successful is successful because of his Niyat and Action - but if it was up to school/college education, everyone must have been successful who went to school - and know this is not true.

College education or not, a Nation needs to be hungry for education and must be looking to improve the way they think, work and live. If you are among those lucky people who demonstrate this behaviour, you are worthy of special respect.

But respect is not a function of knowledge and capability. Allah and Rasool Allah SAWW has taught us to respect HUMANS and LIFE in general. Thus everything and everyone is worthy of respect.

Generally no, until my friend. 2 years into University he ended up having a business idea, now he makes over $500,000 an year. I thought at first he was making an idiotic decision, but he changed my mind.

But also I want to point out... Did he drop out because he failed? Which means to me this person was lazy, or did he drop out because of other reasons? I personally don't have respect for a lazy person.

If you actually had to ask this question, it means you have some insecurity issues. And, with that, not many people are gonna respect you with or without any degree.

College Drop Outs are not very much respected in Pakistani,South Asian and Asian circles as much as education is seen as key to success however this is mainly skewed towards fields of Sciences and Tech there is not much respect I notice when a student from that backround studies lets say Journalism or Poli-Sci, so how do you guys view college drop outs or people who decided not to got to college at all.
Its nuanced to be honest.

Personally I don't really care if someone does or doesn't have an exorbitantly expensive piece of paper (a degree, if you didn't get it) and student debt in hundreds of thousands dollars tailing behind them which they will be paying off for a good while for the foreseeable future, that too if they manage to find employment in their field as most people nowadays can't use their degrees for jack, unless they obtained it in the STEM field which most don't, although STEM is also becoming very competitive; basic supply and demand concept applies here.

I know many college graduates who are still working at Starbucks, and I know college dropouts or people who settled for an associate's at the most who I would consider successful in terms of where they are in their lives and how they utilized the limited time and resources at their disposal.

But there is a common denominator though and thats; some college is still better than no college, meaning at least get 60 credits or 2 year degree if you are able and if college isn't your thing then discontinue and pursue something else; but having that 2 year degree still looks good on the resume for just in case purposes.

Anyhow, regarding the desi parent mentality of "I only want my child to be doctor, lawyer or engineer, anything else will be shame upon the family" yes this is problematic and completely out of line with the Islamic stance which is as long as you are a hard worker and you earn your money honorably, ie. not cheating others then you have more honor than someone who with all his credentials is making his money through cheating and exploiting others.

This doesn't mean go flip burgers at McDonald's all your life. No, go and actually aim for greater heights but also know that there are other excellent careers and fields of success than simply being either a doctor, lawyer or engineer as if these are the only career paths left in the world and had it been the case everyone was cutout to only be a doctor, lawyer and engineer then no one would be a Cop, Firemen, EMS, Construction worker, teacher, etc.

I remember 6-7 years ago meeting a Tamil at my workplace, he was an older gentleman and we were partners at work, he told me back in Sri Lanka all the parents forced their sons to be either doctors or engineers, after graduation they only accepted the best of the best and the rest... became bus drivers, taxi drivers, cleaners. Such a shame, instead of the parents letting them do what they wanted, they ended up in that sorry position.

Hi,

Education is very important in life---Our Prophet stated that " Travel to china if you have to---to seek knowledge "---.

It gives you appreciation of things people before you have done---and it gives you entry to a gateway to do your the things that you can do---.

Education is a must and to gain as much education that is possible is attaining a certain level of success in life---. Decades ago itthings were simpler---you got your degree in a certain field and there were jobs around that you could make a living on---.

Nowadays---through the bad policies of the pakistani state---jobs are difficult to come by---people with jobs do not want to work and still want to get paid---.

Now as for being a well educated person and being arrogant---that is a part of ones personal character that one inherits from their mother father grand parents and other family members or the company you keep---. It certainly does not come from being a muslim---because humanity teaches you to be humble---being a follower of islam---the faith teaches you to be humble---.

Education with a 4 year degree has its own benefits---. In the US there are a million and one jobs for a 4 year degree holder---.

As we have been given examples of these few billionaires---these people do need the help of degree holders to run their businesses---. The state needs degree holders to run the state---Federation needs degree holders to run the country---.

So getting a college degree is the first step towards getting into a successful career---some may fail and that is a reality of life but others will make and find ways to move ahead.

And I state again---" respect is a character issue---it is a moral issue---it is a religion issue---it is a human issue---" its standing in relation to having a degree is very shallow thinking---.

Just remember---our Prophet was illiterate---Jesus was illiterate---Moses who was raised by a King---he might have been given some education---Prophet Ibrahim was illiterate---many a great warriors and conquerers were illiterate---.
