Do you have any questions about Macau?

. .
What is Macau?

Macao is a SAR (Special Administrative Region), much like Hong Kong. The city was under Portuguese administration until 1999, when Portugal returned the city to China.

Macao is most well known for being a famous casino gambling hotspot in Asia, and while being smaller than Hong Kong and having a much smaller population, Macao is bigger than even Las Vegas.

Macau has always been overshadowed by the bigger Hong Kong on the opposite side of the Pearl River delta, even though the two people are closed and had interchanged for a century but their life styles are quite different. Is it safe to say people are more relax in Macau? What do you call a person from Macau?

LOL, my grandparents can listen to those Cantonese Opera songs and watch Kung Fu or old time movies all day long. That's their most favorite past time.

I think people in Hong Kong and Macau are still pretty much in love with them, especially the older generations. I'm not so sure about the people in Guangdong though.

DO macauians speak chinese or protugese?

And SAR is an integral part of china right , then why is it that hongkong and macauians have seperate passports than mainlanders? Isn't it a bad aspect for chinese unity, afterall they were all han chinese before the protugese/british came and colonized them.

I have few questions.

1) How much is Portuguese still used in Macau, as it is rarely heard today in Goa.
2) What was the reaction among the Chinese of Macau when India liberated Goa from the Portuguese.

The main language spoken in Macao is overwhelmingly Cantonese, like Hong Kong. Cantonese and Portuguese are the official languages of Macao.

The two SAR are Macao and Hong Kong. The cities were administrated by Portugal and United Kingdom, respectively, prior to their handover to mainland China. The SAR system exists as Deng Xiaoping's outline for the future of the institutions of both territories, where Hong Kong and Macao would retain a relatively high degree of autonomy and their own institutions with relatively minor institutional changes until 50 years after their handover to China. Hong Kong was handed back to mainland China in 1997 and Macao in 1999. It is said that the SAR system was originally developed as a guideline for the integration of Taiwan with the mainland.

To make things short, Macao and Hong Kong maintain their own immigration system and visa system as part of their autonomy.

Portuguese is, along with Cantonese, currently the two official languages of Macao. Portugal today retains diplomatic and cultural ties with the city even after its handover to China.

To be honest I don't know in detail about the reaction of the people of Macao towards the Indian retaking of the former Portuguese colony Goa.
