I am actually a descendant of Central Asian Muslims who settled in Kashmir, and then moved to Sialkot.
As you know, Muslims didn't convert by force, or else we would not find a Hindu majority in India today.
They were soundly beaten and they retreated. The real islamic rule started with Md.Ghauri defeating Chauhan in 1192.By the early 1700s Marathas were ruling on more territory than Mughals. And then there were sikhs ofcourse...First conquests were in 711 CE. From that time till the heyday of the British Raj is about 1,000 years.
