I think Trump has been under immense pressure internally after Russian meddling in US elections and just to prove the opposite, he is taking on Russia to calm the heat down against him in the media. First over aggressive response of expelling 60 Russian diplomats and now this. Few days back, Trump categorically said that he wants US to move out from Syria but everything got changed when he saw an opportunity to go after Russia after the gas attack in Syria.
