What's new

DJI release a revoluationary drone: DJI FPV

already a major improvement. before this drone, leading FPV drones only had a 4-5 minuet flight time.
I purchase a drone half the price and it gives me approx 30min flight time but not VR experience. My has a high quality camera though.

. .
Yes but look at the flight time:-
  • Approx. 20 mins (measured while flying at 40 kph in windless conditions)
  • Max Hover Time
  • Approx. 16 mins (measured when flying in windless conditions)

Not very good for a $1000 drone.

this is a battery powered drone. if you want any more flight time, you need solar power, but that is still limited by the current output of the batteries to the motors.

once you get to a certain size, you have to go with a combustion engine which vastly increases the size, weight and complexity.

. .
fpvs are not for everyone.

and if you must, do a DIY, more fun that way.

This is the real secret of why fighting the chinese will be so difficult for anyone crazy enough to do it - can you image 10,000's of military versions of these drones each armed with a grenade and IR seeking camera's and AI guidance hunting down soldiers in the battlefield field at night - each with the sole purpose of taking out 1 soldier ????

Scary thought -

Almost feel sorry for the Indian's ( not really !!!!!! )....

It would be cost prohibitive for every soldier to have one. I can see every special force soldier having one though.

Speed drone. The speed of 0-100km/h in 2 seconds is insane.
well, that makes it a very interesting intelligence gathering tool. it'll be bloody hard to take down or detect.
put some infrared HD cameras on it, and it'll be excellent for police and special forces use.

well, i can imagine a smaller army of truck mounted or drone mounted lasers taking them down, but i don't see an easy way to do the targetting of such an incoming fleet of anti personell drones. i hope the geeks at the world's military gear development companies can sort that out. the balance of power had best be upheld.

Police cars around the world should be equipped with one and a loudspeaker to expand the non-lethal options in interrogating suspects and convincing them to surrender, minimize some of the risk to officers and suspects.

Non-lethal IR sprays can be used to tag suspects and follow them (and with larger wide area UAVs) in the event they try to run and get away. AI enabled upgrades could allow the drone to identify the suspect, and then AI enabled facial recognition cameras in the area could follow the suspect as an alternative option.

For Police use, this drone will need to be upgrade with the ability to follow and therefore a three axis Gimbal (like a Mavic 3x) as well as a secondary camera to allow one camera to follow the suspect and one to focus on the flying.

This should also be given to small dedicated units (4 man teams of two operators and two support/bodyguards) in Army or FC outposts to check out suspicious persons and objects before they become a potential threat to the post. Better then sending out a man when a robot could do the job a lot safer. Even a few hundred at the most riskiest outposts and on top of a few vehicles in each convoy wouldn’t cost more than $1 Million total but go along way to perimeter security. Heck, if every FC post and army post and army convoy in the country had this, it would be $10, maybe $20 million tops, but imagine the change in situational awareness. These drones can also act as spotter for base mortar and machine gun teams and sniper units. Should the need arise, scaled up versions with long ranges could probably be build very easily by China or as part of a ToT local production.

Better for Pakistan to master this domain of the battlefield before an adversary masters it first and used it against us without a sufficient defense being ready. The future of warfare is in information; ISR and Networks.

Add an anemometer on the drone then you can precisely calculate the trajectory of the grenade down to centimeters. Its going to be a slaughterfest like some game where you click an enemy on a touchscreen and the drone just homes the grenade into them or some free targeting mode were the impact point is telegraphed on your screen since from the geo location of the drone you can feed topographic satellite data on top of atmospheric data into the equation 😬
