I paid £385 for mine which includes shipping, The spark is sparklingly expensive still. If it gets damaged then not a massive loss.

I was going to buy a DJI, but then I saw the Xiaomi drone and it was quarter the price and just as capable as the DJI with 4K camera on 3 axis gimbal and most importantly it can be very easily disassembled for traveling something DJI can't do.

I bought a Xiaomi Mi 4K just as capable for quarter the price.

I received a Xiaomi 4K as a gift. It's so big you could kill someone just by literally running the drone into them. Not really worth it... Watching the DJI Spark makes me drool. And it's just about the right size for casual flying.

Brand appeal, I guess. Also, they are specifically a drone business. Xiaomi is more like an all-round tech company from drones to rice cookers and TV sets.

On a yearly basis, only Boeing (a military contractor) files more USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) applications than China's DJI for drone technology.

An example of a DJI innovation is to reduce the sound of the drone propellers by 60%. Since DJI consumer drones are much quieter than the competition, who would buy a noisy non-DJI drone?

DJI applies for 130 USPTO patents per year.

After 2008, DJI has cumulatively filed 621 patents with the USPTO.
