so? the television is another form of media, that's all. These were paid for by organizations that are trying to get what they say out, no different than those who buy commercials for or against gay marriage. As I said, those who believe it will agree with it, those who don't will likely not, or search for more information on the subject. Also this hardly seems to be warmongering as most of whats said seems to be pretty standard on what Iran is being accused of, and the commercials aren't directly advocating the bombing of Iran, though that may or may not be what the group behind them wants.Actually the media is controlled by the chinese government, so you won't see "warmongering" on any of the media channels.
All of the "chinese general says X" news stories comes from Indian newspapers
And YES THESE COMMERCIALS HAVE BEEN PLAYED ON TELEVISION
The source of the chinese general's words seems to be an editorial from the global times which as you mention is a state controlled newspaper. It is also talked about in bloomberg and analyzed by another editorial in the Taipei times (I have not read this one). It also turns out he's a retired general not an actual general. So yes it is warmongering, just from a retired general writing an editorial, which means its not as urgent as implied by the titles of the articles.
That said, this also means at least some official of the state saw his words, and still chose to publish it correct? Veiled threat? National salve? Or just grumbling from a retired general?
The 30-second ad, called “Unclenched Fist,” is to begin Tuesday on cable news stations.
“This is Iran,” the narrator says. “Young, vibrant — a people Americans have no quarrel with. Unfortunately, this is also Iran — radical rulers seeking nuclear weapons, threatening the world.
“Americans can do something about it. We can put economic pressure on the Iranian regime — pressure to keep them from building a nuclear arsenal. And that will ensure security — for all of us.”
Also Russia today talks about one of the commercials being played
The commercials seem pretty standard in their accusations and claims (as compared to what Iran is accused of by the US, EU, Israel, etc). As I mentioned these are paid for by interested groups, of course they are going to be pushing a message.
Also Jihan Hafiz and Eugene Bird seem to misunderstand (intentionally) the ad, its not talking about missiles reaching Washington, its talking about parts of our country coming under attack from a close distance.
Honestly they did a bad job with that commercial, a better comparison would perhaps be attacks from Cuba or Mexico on parts of Florida or Texas respectively. Attacks from Baltimore on Washington just sounds awkward as they are both US soil.
Personally I'd like to see who they called or where they conducted this survey about believing Iran already has nuclear weapons, and I'd hardly say 70% of 501 or so participants = 70% of the american public.
These ads are asking for people to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, if they already have them its done and a failure isn't it? So no these ads aren't working, its more than likely preconceived notions or just plain ignorance of the issue.
In any case hopefully 70% of those 501 participants don't vote seeing how uninformed on the issue they are.
Apologies if I rambled a bit there, just my thoughts as I watched and read the related materials .
