Dissecting Western Narrative: "India Rising Pakistan Collapsing"

Is there any other city in Pakistan, apart from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad? The other cities of Pakistan which I often hear are Quetta or Rawalpindi, that too when a bomb goes off there.

And also Multan, because of two reasons, Sehwag and Hafiz Sayeed.

Islamabad = best quality of life in Pakistan. Tree lined avenues , wide roads and squeeky clean streets . Best place to live.

Lahore = Best city for tourism. Cultural offering and historical sights. Nothing beats Lahore.

Abbottabad = Along with Islamabad is the most peaceful city in Pakistan. Very green and the added bonus of being 4500 above sea level.

Sialkot = Produces about 80 % of the world football. Also hometown of Allama muhammad Iqbal.

Faisalabad = Most of the textile industry is based here. 3rd largest city in the country

Bahawalpur = Famous for its extravagant palaces. Used to be a province.

he was talking about Islamabad Airport which is considered the worst airport in Pakistan, infact people call it a bus depot

Our old airports were all minimal soviet style crap. I remember the old Bangalore airport smelled like stale urine. But with liberalisation in 90s we began getting decent greenfield airports with a PPP model. Beginning with Cochin and Hyderabad.

These airports are clean, efficient and well-maintained. But I have never been to Islamabad, so I don't know.

well we are not collapsing but a hard nut to crack... and we are rising with a slow pace....

India is the new buzzword as China cools down and transits into a developed economy. However, India will have to post a decent track record of growth to sustain the limelight. The key point of limelight are the reforms. If Modi administration fails to implement reforms, India may lose the limelight again like it lost it to Indonesia in recent past with analysts renouncing I of BRICS to Indonesia.

India has its challenges. But Indonesia is no position to replace India

Is India a Flailing State?: Detours on the Four Lane Highway to Modernization

https://dash.harvard.edu/handle/1/4449106

India is an emerging global superpower as its rapid growth has transformed its economy and has maintained itself as the world’s largest democracy. But at the same time India lags in many dimensions—its malnutrition rate is one of the highest in the world, its immunization rates are lower than most African countries, and Bangladesh has a better infant mortality rate. I argue that this is in part because the India state is “flailing”—its very capable head is not longer reliably connected to the arms and legs of implementation. In the four-fold transition of economy, polity, administration, and society the administrative capability of the state is lagging. I use examples from services like health, education, and routine transactions like issuing driver’s licenses to show that the agents of the state routinely do not implement the tasks they are assigned—causing a massive divergence between de jure and de facto reality. The paper concludes with speculations about the causes of flailing and possible future trajectories.

Typical India bashing topics. Haq needs to get a life.

I wonder how PDF is allowing this fellow to propagate his blog? Is this allowed?

He has to earn his daily bread... this old man had panicked a lot recently... so many anti india threads from him..

It was not a airport for civilians but for HAL & airforce. The civilians were just accommodated. The airport hardly had any amenities , just a 50 mtr dash from the security would put you on the plane!

.
Maybe true in 2008. Probably not even then, since Shamshabad airport would have beaten any Pakistani Airport back then.

Riaz Bhai is Living in fools paradise i tell you... indian small domestic airports are much better than Islamabad airport.. recently i have been Mangalore.... beautiful small airport.. even smaller airports have been developed so well in India

So instead of actually addressing his points, You two are going to attack him personally. That Is a sign of ignorance and cowardice, nothing more. He is not India bashing, he is simple stating facts. If either of You actually bothered to Read his post, you'd know That his points are fairly simple. The excerpts are from other well known Third party sources sources, so you both can screw right off if you think that he's making this up.

Ignoring that every thread opened by this member consists of shameless hot-linking to promote his blog, and blatant plagiarization of content under the guise of references which is monetized.

No one other than Pakistani analysts drum this narrative of west's "tanqeed" of Pakistan failing, capitulating, etc etc. And these feel good articles of great tourism experiences are great, but where are the numbers to back them up. Sure India is flailing because open defecation, when did that become an indicator for growth of a nation. I have no intention of belittling Pakistan, never have never will. Pakistan's economic roadmap is Pakistan's responsibility, the OP deliberately drags India into the thread for no reason and then hotlinks his usual tripe against India. To begin post is filled with the intention to insult a nationality. I don't mind his usual BS as I have seen his weak narrative when he attempts to create some original content, it remains inarticulate, unimaginative and amateurish at best.

More desperation on OP's part. Posting a 2009 study in 2016. :D Once again, I'll have bear the burden of enlightening OP.

India has emerged as a new innovation ‘empire’ of choice by global corporates. Bengaluru - the information technology and start-up hub – has surpassed many global cities as a preferred destination for innovation centres, according to Capgemini’s study on ‘Innovation Empire’.

Bengaluru that has emerged as the fifth most preferred location for housing innovation centres, overtook Tokyo, Shanghai, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Munich and Chicago, said the report titled ‘Digital Dynasties: The Rise of Innovation Empires Worldwide’. In the previous report that captured data until July 2015, Bengaluru did not figure in the list of top 10 cities.

India is the largest economy in South Asia, and it is also Pakistan's main rival, "dragging it" into the conversation is completely logical; After all, you don't strive to overcome nations you've already passed.

OP does a very good job of referencing his sources, regardless of promoting his own blog. PDF allows such things, as long as members contribute in a productive fashion, which OP does consistently.

I have a number of disagreements with OP, but credit where it is due, he does a good job of presenting his findings.

This is PAF airbase not a regular airport. Its conflict, PAF doesn't allow any alteration in the airport building and asking Federal Govt many times to move the flights somewhere else and handover this airport to PAF.

Pakistan biggest mistake was Afghan war. This war brought too much radicalization and destroy social fabric. It will take time for Pakistan to get out from this radicalization, but it need foreign investment in different industrial sector.

So why does PDF allow such flagrant idiocy? That is the real question to ask.

What attracted Columbus and other Europeans to India was its reputation as a "golden bird" built under Muslim rule.

Read Paknja Mishra's Op Ed in NY Times:

India, V.S. Naipaul declared in 1976, is “a wounded civilization,” whose obvious political and economic dysfunction conceals a deeper intellectual crisis. As evidence, he pointed out some strange symptoms he noticed among upper-caste middle-class Hindus since his first visit to his ancestral country in 1962. These well-born Indians betrayed a craze for “phoren” consumer goods and approval from the West, as well as a self-important paranoia about the “foreign hand.” “Without the foreign chit,” Mr. Naipaul concluded, “Indians can have no confirmation of their own reality.”

Mr. Naipaul was also appalled by the prickly vanity of many Hindus who asserted that their holy scriptures already contained the discoveries and inventions of Western science, and that an India revitalized by its ancient wisdom would soon vanquish the decadent West. He was particularly wary of the “apocalyptic Hindu terms” of such 19th-century religious revivalists as Swami Vivekananda, whose exhortation to nation-build through the ethic of the kshatriya (the warrior caste) has made him the central icon of India’s new Hindu nationalist rulers.
------
A Harvard-trained economist called Subramanian Swamy recently demanded a public bonfire of canonical books by Indian historians — liberal and secular intellectuals who belong to what the R.S.S. chief in 2000 identified as that “class of bastards which tries to implant an alien culture in their land.” Denounced by the numerous Hindu supremacists in social media as “sickular libtards” and sepoys (the common name for Indian soldiers in British armies), these intellectuals apparently are Trojan horses of the West. They must be purged to realize Mr. Modi’s vision in which India, once known as the “golden bird,” will “rise again.”

Mr. Modi doesn’t seem to know that India’s reputation as a “golden bird” flourished during the long centuries when it was allegedly enslaved by Muslims. A range of esteemed scholars — from Sheldon Pollock to Jonardon Ganeri — have demonstrated beyond doubt that this period before British rule witnessed some of the greatest achievements in Indian philosophy, literature, music, painting and architecture. The psychic wounds Mr. Naipaul noticed among semi-Westernized upper-caste Hindus actually date to the Indian elite’s humiliating encounter with the geopolitical and cultural dominance first of Europe and then of America.
