Every Indian know about our country pathetic education system , from elementary up to the higher education & the whole education system created buy congress in last 60 years was exposed during 2009 PISA evaluation & subsequent refusal buy India to allow PISA to evaluate Indian students, the fear is quite obvious in HRD ministry as well as denial, no matter how much we critsise Chinese government they are probably the most carrying for their country & its future unlike our failed Democratic system who provided idiots to the posts of national importance in government classical example being current HRD minister & junior HRD of whom one is 12th pass other being a well known fake professor from RSS

These results on PISA 2009+ & subsequent refusal buy indian government to allow PISA to evaluate students till date while tragic for what they imply for Indian youth and perhaps shocking to newcomers to this subject, come as no surprise to those who have been working on basic education in India:

  • Das and Zajonc (2008)used results from Orissa and Rajasthan to create indices on mathematics performance similar to those of TIMSS (Trends in Mathematics and Science Study) and found these states near the bottom of the global rankings.
  • Educational Initiativescarried out an 18 state study using sophisticated testing instruments and found levels of performance on TIMSS comparable items that were stunningly lower. For instance on the open ended question "Write a fraction larger than 2/7" less than 30 percent of Indian students in standard 8 could answer correctly compared to more than 70 percent internationally.
  • The APRest study led by Karthik Muralidharan and Venkatesh Sundararaman in rural AP asked the same questions of students in grades 2 to 5 and found very slow rates of learning progress.
  • The results year after year from the ASER [2010 2009] study supported by Pratham find that significant fractions of students in Standard 8 cannot master even Standard 2 curricular basics. In rural areas nationwide a third of children in grade 8 could not do a simple division problem and almost 20 percent could not read a level 2 text. The 2011 results, due out in a few weeks will show continued stagnation or even retrogress in learning.
  • Numerous studies by MIT's JPAL, World Bank,NCAER/University of Maryland and other researchers found levels of performance that were shockingly low compared to curricular expectations.
So I ask Indian members what necessary step need to be taken to correct are dismal education system ,@Guynextdoor2 @indianBong @Bang Galore @Joe Shearer @Srinivas @mugdi & all others plz feel free to share your opinion on such an important topic

In engineering, aeronautics and biotech, simply copy-paste syllabuses of Japan, Germany, Finland and Russia.
In medicine, encourage naturally preferred treatments like ayurveda through AYUSH initiative.
Unify the different bodies of education under one HRD Ministry. Get our engineering and scientific areas of study accredited by these countries' universities.

And teach the professors and teachers to actually let research and open-minded questioning in the open. The quality of professors should not be with just a PHD; but from their ability to teach and make students enjoy their subjects of research, study and understanding.

Please remove all quotas on education.

Only educational material assistance to those who cannot afford college education and also scholarships for the financially weak students.

That's all.

I don't know why the education system is still not revamped entirely dumping existing.

Make a system based on innovation not marks. Revamp the IIT, make them innovative institutes not engineers for MNCs.

Do something new and different must be the idea.

IIT is overrated because of the competition that is there to get into it.

It is as useless a system as our overall system.

The people that manage to get into it are studious or smart naturally that's all. IIT or IIM doesn't do anything to make the students smarter by taking in even those who have non-numerical abilities.

Innovation driven system like Israel is needed.

Not marks.

Modi has a chance... he can do it if he want. Israel, Germany and US can be the role model. A committee should be set up to study the education systems of these countries.

If we do it today it will take 20 years to get result of that education system, So we need to do it now.

He cant delveir, he purposely appointed idiots to the post of HRD to further sangh agenda, it would naive to think BJP will bring any reforms to correct Indian education system when there is lot of pressure from illetrate sanghis not to

problems in our education system is in different tier.....
1...primary level: rampant corruption in govt school leads to shaky foundation of a student.. infact to cover their mistakes teachers allow students to cheat etc....
2...secondary level..: same govt schools sucks... syllabus are different in different boards ICSE CBSE STATE etc etc.... no uniformity.. neither is there any provision to make students "research oriented".. no proper lab facilities... neither is there encouragement of "out of box" thinking...
3...graduate level : limited no of good colleges in india... rest are dumping ground.... most colleges are places where political parties cultivate there future cadres... absolutely no provision of good library, neither good laboratory are present... No seminars etc etc...
4... masters/PhD level: ironic but in india very few people opt for Phd .. stipends are very low in PhD... no proper lab facility.. huge amount of interdepartmental jealousy... if you know the name of SUBHAS MUKHERJEE, this fellow actually made the first test tube baby....but later commited suicide as his own colleagues/institute made fun of him...

there are numerous reasons apart from these.... we need to learn from china a lot....

This is the scenrio but what can we do? These could be a start.

1) Change marks based systems.
2) Ban politics in all institutes.
3) Commercialize them with direct involvement of corporates.
4) Virtual classes from best colleges/schools to the remote areas and villages.

Previous oxford educated HRD minsters didnt do something revolutionary to the system either, what was stopping them? . Remember UPA's Arjun Singh who bought quotas to even IITs?

Unlike erstwhile bigwigs who sat duck on MHRD for a decade without any tangible outcome atleast the sanghi lady is open to suggestions from critics

Also it'd be welcome step if instead of promising new IITs every budget of government were to take care of shortage of quality staff.

Was hugely disappointed with the union budget though, our demographic advantages count for nothing unless we undertake massive skill development/re skilling programmes

If mountains are high, then oceans are deep.
In a very diverse country, it its very much possible to have both the best of the world and worst of the world.

What we need to ensure is we keep increasing the quality as we increase the quantity. It would always be foolish to compare Indian education system with the developed world education system or where english is primary language.

It takes time to improve, we are doing great and surely can do much better. Building educated society is more challenging then building a robotic system, so its going to take time to build a system which ensure good quality education. We have succeded in ensuring that going to school is now a daily habit into kids, sooner good education will be the focus of these kids, who currently are going there just for food and enjoyment.

And as far as these reports are concerned, if they are going to paint all rossy pics then who is going to pay them :p

yes sir.... i guess so... in addition quota system should be abolished...
our education system is more like "mugging up and vomiting in exam".. specially entrance oriented...... scope of proper application of knowledge isn't available.... people are not encouraged to research field...
if you see sir, those "physics/maths/computer olympiad", "junior research scheme" etc happens in metros whearas the towns and villages are largely neglected.....
and the biggest way to change everything is govt has to think and act beyond vote politics...

No their syllabus can not match of ours.Actually we need some practical training with theory.

i forgot to add one thing..... scholarships are very important.....quota system should be abolished and scholarship for poor should be introduced..... govt tries to make education almost free for every1... that should not happen, it lowers the quality.... those who can pay should pay....

You're joking right?

Ours is the most ridiculous education system right now when it comes to engineering, innovation and technology.

We need 90% practical 10% theory, which is currently the opposite and the cause of our struggle.
