I certainly think that treaty or no treaty we are already aligned with PRC and have been for decades now. I am just a normal citizen of Pakistan and I feel that any attack against China is an attack against Pakistan and should be dealt accordingly and with honor.

Should Pakistan and China enter a formal military alliance with each other?

No please. Pakistan has not gained (but lost) in past 70 years by doing all these alliances. I guess it's right time for Pakistan be diplomatic active in the world and have partnerships (not alliances) with countries...like India does.

By being in an alliance , the weaker country is always bound to suffer...as the stronger country can dump it at it's will (when objectives no longer converge)....besides alliance "tag" a country as more close to some and adverse to other (among rival camps)....thus increasing it's security risks, over dependency on one country and greater cultural influence of the dominating ally country ...

Be independent, have a balanced foreign policy...Free from ego and security phobia and off-course without discriminating between the nations on basis of religion.

Next thing is to consider is how much both populations consider themselves to be friends (heck some even brothers and sisters).

If the above statement is true, why is it so difficult for a Pakistani individual to travel to China. I understand from various travel forums that private visits by Pakistanis to China is not allowed, and Pakistanis can only travel to China as a part of official business / authorized groups. Even SAR territories of China impose visa restrictions on Pakistanis.
China has a far easier visa policy for Indians, so shouldn't Pakistan clear this anomaly first and make people to people contacts easier and then security pacts?!

WOW! Sounds amazing. NOT TRUE! but still truly amazing!

Military alliance is a doctrine of cold war, a ramification of confrontation between US and Soviet Union. When you talk about military alliance, this delivers a strong message of confrontation.

China has a defense pack with North Korea which will expire in 2021, as per Kim's announcement of "Great Achievement of Nuclear weapon", I highly doubt China will renew this defense pack with North Korea after 2021. From a strategic view, China is pushing OBOR global wise, the concept of alliance is intrinsically against this great initiative, OBOR promote cooperation, howerver alliance promote confrontation.

Pakistanis a top 10 military power, the 7th nuclear power, a leading Muslim military force, itself is a semi-polar force. Pakistan apparently opt to the relationship of being a partner, because India is the only arch-rival of Pakistan. Pakistan became alliance of US because India's pro USSR policy. However after Pakistan and India became nuclear power, they in fact respectively turn into independent military force.

As per Chinese ambassador's statement, "Pakistan and China are good friends, not alliance, alliance is the doctrine of cold war." Pakistan can definitely obtain support from China, a time-tested friend, when its existence is threaten, this not necessarily lead to a signed defense pack which unavoidably escalate the collision of South Asia, all are losers if this happen.

I don't think China, Pakistan, India have requirement to formally sign military defense pack with any country.

Both China and Pakistan need each other.i think it's china who is responsible for recent friendly ties of Pakistan with russia.i think to counter America,we need russia and China.china have massive influence and they are very civilized people.russia is still a super power.russian army is the deadliest army.america will definitely try to destabilize Pakistan because it's not going to leave afghanistan.we must do a pact with China that if America or India wage a war against Pakistan in future, china will intervene.russia might help us against americans.they are bitter enemies of each other.in the coming years, situation in this region is going to be bad.we must trust china as an important partner.what can we offer to china? Well china knows our situation.we can't help china against bigger nations but we can provide them complete access to Pakistani waters.basically we can allow them to use Pakistani ports to counter enemy.gwadar might become crucial in the coming years because America will never allow china to sit here in gwadar.what Pakistan can get from China? They are making all their weapons and we can buy more sams more ammo more fighters.they are our best friend.
use pakistan ports ? you mean use of Karachi ? so you must be also ready to bombed by the US . are you ready for that as well ?

VOTED YES
  • China Pakistan military alliance is a foretelling which I am waiting to turn true
  • Joining hands against common enemy is the always right defensive/offensive strategy
  • This alliance is now a need of time and not a "good to have".

'Attack on Islamabad will be considered an attack on Shanghai'

What's the point in an announced military alliance when such a message has been communicated explicitly already.

The SCO is definitely not a military alliance.

Mutual security is one of the organisation's tenets, and Western media sometimes refers to it as a military bloc or a counter to NATO

That's fair, I don't think China will force Pakistan to send men and equipment in case of a war breaking out with Taiwan, USA or anyone else.

But if we do sign a mutual defence treaty you will have to make an official declaration of war, even if you don't send troops.

China on the other hand will certainly send troops, ships and aircraft, the whole deal. As history shows, China takes mutual defence treaties very seriously, and to abandon them is an unacceptable loss of face.

I don't want to be the party pooper here by bringing India in here...but here is the deal.A military alliance between china and pakistan is extremely improbable because of India. You can bet India would feel mighty insecure once the alliance happens and will in turn try to make an alliance with U.S ( it's only option ). Plus the international reactions to the alliance will be very negative...China can takeany economic blackmail as it has grown to be a big economy but can pakistan take it ?
It sounds like a huge lose lose thinking to me

Not only China
Pakistan+China+Russia+Turkey+Srilanka need to be make an alliance like NATO.

What exactly you mean with "NOT TRUE!"?
According to the official Chinese embassy website of Islamabad:
http://pk.chineseembassy.org/eng/lsfw/va/t815152.htm

"L Visa

For tourism in China, Pakistani nationals are requested to join a tourist group (more than 5 people), which should be arranged through a qualified local travel agency"

For Indian nationals it is even visa free for visiting Hong Kong.

hahaha dude we all know coming years are not easy for pakistan or india.before indian election, something terrible might happen and we are planning to prepare ourselves for the future.you know afghanistan and american forces are still there.it's now 15 or 16 years of their presence in afghanistan.we know why they don't want to quit afghanistan.we can see things from a distance xd.
