Disappointment at Saarc as Pakistan blocks 3 key connectivity agreements

Two Ive mentioned above.

Surgical instruments are another option.

Limited agreements also shackles us from competing in the India market. One that we could capture considering ease of access.

So thats the master plan here!!:o:

Aaap FATA key baat kar rahei hain ? :o:

Khair so far the MFN Status that India gave us is worth a little more than a roll of toilet paper; unless the Non-Tariff barriers go the Free-Trade you talk about is gonna remain a pipe dream.
at least we started, you guys need to reciprocate.

.
Opening trade with India isn't as big an issue as getting rid of those non tariff barriers on the Indian side is otherwise trade isn't a one way thing where they get access to our market and we don't get access to theirs.

Right, how do you compete?

Unless pakistan gives a mfn status why should we oblige?:coffee:

The issue is not Pakistan specific. If we give, a particular incentive to Pakistan it needs to be applied to all other countries who have MFN status. Hence, the fear on the Indian side.

@Donatello

Where an agreement like this works is, vehicles for example will be allowed to enter and deliver goods till their destination. Currently, for eg between India and Bangladesh the truck can enter upto 150 kms of the other border. What this will do, is it will increase tax collection for Pakistan and reduce costs of imports which are coming through Dubai. This will increase revenue for the GoP. Also, goods going to Bangladesh from Pakistan and Afghanistan from India will drive through.

The cost of doing business through Dubai should be self evident for anybody.

I think, instead of waiting for them we should start making better connectivity with other SAARC nations. The Pakistan leadership is too much driven by politics and does not have courage to make bigger and bolder decisions. I am saying this from yesterday, they do not have capacity to move forward. They are still living in medieval mentality.

Pakistanis on this thread are funny.

Other than brand status and quality how can Pakistan compete in the Indian market?

The Indians will obviously dominate. :disagree:

.
Indian cement Industry is actually bigger than ours.

Still not sufficient enough for india as a whole.
If u want a smaller country only to trade with then please look at nepal, bhutan, maldives etc.

Why trade with even china which is harming the local industry of pakistan 10 times more than india ever could.:coffee:

There is no point being stuck about MFN status. Let Pakistani companies start exporting cement and textiles. It will reduce infra development costs in the north. Also, if the quality of Pakistani textiles is better and costs lower, it will increase the pressure on Indian companies to deliver better.

We also have trade barriers with US, but that doesn't stop us from trading. These can be sorted out IMO.

. .
Like I said that MFN Status that you gave us is so buried under layers of protectionist measures that it defeats the very purpose of what WTO intended it to be; which means you gave us little more than a three letter word.

U guys did not even give us that,,if u do we may remove the shackles.
Unless u guys do we may never know;)

.
If Pakistan doesnt interested let be it other countries should ratify it and move on other saarc countrys can be benefit by this
