Diriliş Ertuğrul: Turkish views needed

I'm a conservative guy but also I'm anti-Erdogan, I believe in real secularism (but not in that liberalism crap) because It's one of the basic values of Islam. To me, Ataturk's six basic principles are only way to glory. He's neither a British agent nor a Jesus-like figure; he's just one of the greatest Turkish leaders Just like Mehmed II, Bayezid the first or Selim the Grim who saved a falling nation. We could've very well become like the Arab nations or the rest of the muslim world, no offense to others but there's a real reason why we are still the thoughest muslim nation while we still went through a lot of disasters for the past 400 years. We were never occupied but we still went through a lot which no other nation or state would still be around if they faced the same conditions. Again, I'm not like those slaves of the west who hide behind Ataturk's name and don't care about his values. I care about Islamic values but I also try to understand Ataturk's ideas and struggles...

And when it comes to the show, there's no need to bother yourself with these brother, just try to enjoy the show. There are many non-Turkish fans of the Magnificent Century show but it's nnot historical accurate too, it's broadcasted across the world including Europe but no one cares about it being historically accurate. I understand your point but my advice is just try to not care about it...
By the way, I've always wondered, which city are you in brother?

Understandable. I am in Ankara.

It's a show, mate, I think it should be enjoyed as such and, personally, I think HumTV and ARY Digital and the ilk need to take some notes and move away from the typical garbage on the television right now. It's so annoying that it's not even funny now.

Thank you! :P
Even my wife is breathing a sign of relief we have something else besides sas and bahu gargage.

Hi,

Pakistani public is starving for honesty in a character with leadership capabilities---. the reaction of the pakistani viewers shows that if IK had any aota of sense---he could use it to build the character of a nation that desperately needs character building---.

This is also a time that ruthless justice can be imposed on vicious criminals and and you won't hear the public retaliating---.

A lots of good can come out of this series only if IK and his team knows how to manipulate it to the advantage of pakistan---.

@Alternatiiv Leave your worries aside. Let me ask you firstly, have you seen this show? If not, please watch it.

The interesting thing about Turkish culture, esp during this time of Seljuks and Ottomans, is that it is analogous to our own experiences of the Dilli Sultanat, Ghaznavi, Ghouri, Mughal, and Durrani eras.

Further, the religious leaning of the show is very much digestible to Pakistanis who are also Sunni Hanafis with a strong emphasis of Sufis, full with warrior Ghazis, Wali/peers, and emphasis on Islamic fiqh (or yearning for it atleast.)

I have watched all 5 seasons long ago, when it first aired on Netflix. Some of my Turkish friends asked me to watch it. I was surprised how the intricacies similar Turkish culture is to our own.

The producers of the show heavily researched the times, and studied the culture of rural Turkmen. Islam is a big part of life in rural Turkish culture, even though some cities are more secular in nature.

Assuming what you're saying is true, what's your solution and do you think you can realistically apply it?
I don't know. I am just concerned for the show's effect on majority since Islam and Ottoman Caliphate is very important for Pakistani people. I personally think Pakistani people are very, very easily delusional, and the biggest proof of that is Youtube channels out there like Haqeeqat TV with millions of subscribers, who start with Bismillah and then begin their stream of nonsensical lies... and people actually believe with 100% certainty.

I don't think they're consuming it for education or information but for a religious thrill, and that will motivate other subtleties.

Because of how it might influence opinion of people, I don't think it is good. Anyways, I said what I think I needed to say, my points are summarized in 2nd post.

I watched few episodes of it, unfortunately its too long and I can't commit to it. I don't have any problem with its content.

But what you're saying about culture, experience and historical accuracy is seriously flawed. I can tell you that much. From the accents and dialects to the practices to the philosophies, they're not accurate.

I don't know. I just raised my concern.

Watch more before judging it. You have non-Muslims from totally different backgrounds appreciating the show. There is a reason Netflix went on to getting 5 seasons of it.

Yunus Emre is a similar show, which is based more on Sufism and the relationship of ustad and mmureed.it is a good watch as well.

It's appreciated because it's a good production. Did I say it's not? But it's not historically accurate. I don't think I am going to argue with Turkish people on their own history, dude.

Yeah it's one of the problems with our shows, every foreigner who watches them complains about it since it takes a whole night to just to finish an episode and it's one of the reasons why I'm staying away from our shows

Wish it were shorter : ) however hundreds of episodes, and hours each episode is scary.

It's not just a show, the topic it covers is a pretty strong one for people in Pakistan, shouldn't we consider how it will effect the opinions of people? People talk about '5th Generation Warfare' all the time based off some nobody's tweet with a couple thousand likes, but when it comes to an entire series with around like over 1000 hours of watchable content, with already a sudden millions of viewers, people are not at all concerned about its effect on people and their opinions.
Well I am watching it and it teaches me that like then today the enemies of the state are certainly external player but the real enemies are within. Additionally its shows that have faith in Allah and do the right thing no matter what. Its showing me trust no one even your wife may be working against you when it come to the state. And power hungry people are everywhere. There is no swearing abusing. There is no alcohol there is no fornication. I am good with it. I am surprised you are having issues even through it's not factually 100 % correct

My concern is not it's accuracy, that was just something I was curious about. My concerns have been listed out in the second post (#3 on this thread).
