Did Pakistan Modify Harpoon Missile?

No. If I recall, the US was allowed to inspect the missiles, and they were found to be completely tamper-free.

 these are American products.....we don't require any "allowing" by anyone as that's a part of the deal that random inspections at any time (coordinated or uncoordinated) can take place.

.
making a harpoon into a land attack missile would be to much work for the pay-off.

Pakistan could just buy SLAM-ER or JSOW-ER

Pakistan owns the missiles, so no. The IP rights might be with the US, but Pakistan could have refused, as they were bought and paid for, by Pakistan.

In this case, the US would require allowing.

What you're thinking of are the f-16, and OHPs, as no inspection clause exists with any other product sold to Pakistan.

Hi,

Same with the missiles and any other weapon---unless agreed by the U S. Harpoon was one of those not to be opened and modified.

.
There is nothing wrong if Pakistan had done this. US should have thought before giving Pakistan this critical missiles.

Remember the mehran base attack?
It was America making sure the P-3 suspected of modification never fly again.
Although a team of theirs inspected the planes and found no evidence of modification of harpoon firing system.

I wanna troll please...
Well, Pakistan can't even modify Babur missile which it claims to develop from scratch.
No trolling seriously.
Go play with your Russian donated Brahmos while trying to fly Nirbhay which crashes in Cashew nut plantation

The supposed modification was made to the guidance system of Harpoon AShM, enabling it to attack targets over land (as reported by NY Times). P-3C Orions of Pakistan Navy already had the capability to launch Harpoons against Surface Vessels, logically they didn't need any modification.

I am SUPER confused. Why would Pakistan or any country "modify" a 100 Miles missiles, when they internally produce 350 KM range missiles which they can increase the range as they want to???? Harpoon is a very capable missile but its older technology and comes with restrictions. Why touch that, when you have a range of other missiles to chose from?
That's what Jane's said when they made the accusations. It was a very embarrassing time for them.

Hi,

Actually it was one of the many stupid moments for the U S foreign office and the senator and congressman who pushed them to look into it----.

They culd have called Jane before asking the question---or asked their own military---or just searched on the web for Pakistani missile capabilities.
