Why are you comparing Indian theaters with BD theaters? India has hundreds of multiplex theaters and Bollywood is the 2nd largest film industry in the world whereas BD has just started to build multiplex. There is only one multiplex in the entire country right now. Single screen cinema halls are shutting down day by day and replaced by shopping complex and apartments because nobody wants to see local C grade films. Except 1 or 2 films all other BD movies are extremely poor quality films copied from Tamil and Telugu films.

There are 5 more multiplex theaters coming up soon. 3 in Dhaka, 2 in Chittagong.

Bangladeshis follow bollywood movies a lot, if they can watch on tv/dvd why not in theatres..

Two kinds of people go to watch movies in theaters.
One is illiterate class. They love to watch bengali movies. They dont understand hindi
and English.Another class is educated class. They love to watch English movies only.

But both of them watch Hindi/Tamil and other kinds of movies in their own places.

We were taliking about some serious movies. Bollywood movies are not worth to
waste money.

Get off your high horse mister. Do you know the reason why BW movies aren't allowed in BD? Because your artists fear them. I am sure there are enough bollywood fans in BD who would spend their precious time and money on them. You may not be one of them but you don't speak for all Bangladeshis. I have seen the craze for Bollywood stars in BD or the number of Bangladeshis in Bollywood sites.

Films from India have been proscribed in Bangladesh since 1972, the year after the country's independence, to protect the local film-making industry. However, the number of cinemas has fallen from 1,600 a decade ago to 600 this year, a decline which cinema exhibitors attribute to poor-quality homegrown films failing to draw viewers. At the same time, Indian films are hugely popular in Bangladesh and locals can get their Bollywood fix on cable TV and through pirated copies which circulate widely.

I think multiplexes will change that culture because they cant have enough English only crowd to survive and illeterates cant afford it. They will need some bread and butter movie and bollywood will give that.

because both literates and illeterates watch hindi movie, they have a captive market waiting to be served.

Indian films will release very soon. There is absolutely no other way these multiplexes can survive. There is a contract signed between a local production house and Shree Venkatesh Films, the biggest production house in Kolkata to make 200 digital cinema halls (including multiplexes) all over the country. The existing multiplex, Star Cineplex also seeks permission to information ministry to allow them to make 20 more multiplexes in the country. Bollywood films are coming to BD theaters very soon.

The problem with imax is you need movies in imax format, and most movies are not made into that format.
The screen other guys are talking about (in many movie theatres in india) are not imax but 70 mm

Hope BD never import bollywood hindi or tamil movies. Not good for Bengali culture.
Nothing to learn from those movies.
Indian Bengali movies are good. Good for Bengali.
