Dhaka Wants New Delhi to Facilitate Gas Imports from Myanmar

Bangladesh has sought India’s help in importing natural gas from Myanmar, the paper Daily Sun reported October 5.

Country’s state minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid will meet Indian oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on October 5 to discuss the issue. “Bangladesh will propose four-nation consortiums to import gas from Myanmar at the meeting on Wednesday,” senior government official Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin told Daily Sun.

A Bangladeshi delegation will hold a series of meetings on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, setting up an LNG re-gasification as a joint-venture between Petrobangla and Petronet LNG; and LNG imports from a private-sector Indian firm, Adani, the paper reported.

Myanmar’s gas exports to Thailand and China, its two main customers, have dropped in recent months and Dhaka feels Bangladesh could be a replacement as domestic demand is rising steadily. The government is working to meet the deficit by importing LNG and has begun work on building import infrastructure. In July, Excelerate Energy, Petrobangla, and the Government of Bangladesh signed the final agreement for the construction and operation of Bangladesh's first LNG import terminal – Moheshkhali Floating LNG.

The government is also encouraging foreign firms to develop the country's natural gas resources. Last week, Petrobangla invited expressions of interest from international bidders to explore oil and gas resources from Bangladesh Deep Sea Blocks DS-10 and DS-11 and Shallow Sea Block SS-10 under the Speedy Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provision) Act, 2015.

. .
So Bangladesh wants to fight Burma and have its gas as well too? :P Btw regional integration is much more important. If Myanmar can provide the same gas Qatar gives us, it saves us time and transit costs.

When did Bangladesh try to fight against Burma? In 2008 Burmese Frigates were chased out of disputed territory which was settled by International Court later

Bangladesh took Look East Policy in 2002 under which a road was constructed in Myanmar with the help of Bangladesh and Thailand. More and More integration will take place. We are expecting a settlement of Rohingya crisis by the good will of Aung Sunn Suuu Kyi and effective approach of Koffee Anan

Ur compatriots were asking for war against BD for trying to grab resources and attack on Muslims. I responded to that. I dont know why some of the persons here mix international politics with religion. There are lots here who hate India aka majority Hindus in helping them to grant freedom. One even want Pakistan to invade BD again.

Quite honestly I was trolling and wasnt expecting an serious response ;)

Yeah, right!

Rohingya issue is complete deadlock. Goodwill by Aung Sun Suu Kyi... Pfffftttt.... She can and will DO NOTHING. N-O-T-H-I-N-G. The magic of democracy. As long as the majority is appeased, minority is negligible. Hypocite you might say. But the sooner you wake up, the better. But wait.... maybe islamic brotherhood throughout the world can help them. Malaysia, Indones... NOPE. Middle-east countries ... unless they wanna be slaves.... NOPE. The west... unless they got papers... which MM govt. don't give them... NOPE. Asylum/refugee.... after syria crisis.... NOPE. Rohingyas got better chance of living by mass converting to buddhism or sth rather than staying muslims.

I know about the Burmese nature. Still gotta wait for koffe Annan and His report. He can't be bought right? There are already enormous pressure on Myanmar regarding Rohingyas. It will increase many folds after Annan's job.

Nothing will happen. UN's the cuck that america and EU sometimes use to shame unfavorable governments and nations, and little powerless countries to squabble in. Human Rights groups are limp-dicks as always. U.S. won't jeopardize newly mended relationship for this. EU is more sensitive to these issues mostly because of their moral high-horse they pretend to ride on, but powerless cuck that's foreign policy is tied to washington. And even if they show a little backbone it definitely won't be economic like russia. Anyway MM got china and asean on their back so no, NO pressure. They even protested Anan's visit cause "they themselves wanna solve their internal issue" ironical when they consider rohingyas outsiders or plain 'Bangladeshis' :D

. .
why BD want to import gas from even after they declared they have largest gas reserve in BOB.. ?
o_O

BD needs a lot of gas for producing electricity. If We utilize all our gas it will be finished by 2030. I guess The Govt. wants to keep a good amount of resource in hand.

good.. but we also need a large amount of gas to run power plant.. that's why we reduced a mount of export to other countries.. obviously, the answer is "No".. Myanmar will not export gas to BD..
