Dhaka has requested Islamabad to join international community in the efforts to impel Myanmar to a speedy repatriation of all its forcibly displaced nationals.
The request was made when Bangladesh high commissioner in Islamabad Tarik Ahsan made a courtesy call on Pakistan prime minister Shaid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday, according to an news release of the high commission.
It said the high commissioner thanked the Pakistan premier for expressing solidarity with Bangladesh in tackling the humanitarian crisis over the Rohingyas who in their thousands fled Myanmar persecution.
The Pakistan leader maintained that the state of Myanmar ‘should shoulder its responsibilities for protection of all its nationals, particularly the minorities’, added the release signed by the Bangladesh mission’s political counsellor Md. Najmul Huda.
Premier Abbasi was also said to have called for strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries by removing all misgivings through dialogue.
In this context, the release said, he stressed the need for resuming foreign secretary-level consultations between the two countries.
In response, the high commissioner indicated that Bangladesh is open to the long-overdue consolations at any mutually convenient time in Dhaka, said the release.
The Pakistan leader attached particular importance to further enhancing trade and economic relations as well as promoting people-to-people contact between the two nations.
