What's new

DF-41 now confirmed by the Pentagon

So where are all those people who claimed earlier than DF-41 is already developed and deployed?

.
Snowden proves it..

DF-41 will be solid propulsion while R-36 is liquid propulsion but given Russia sharing both Asia and Europe continent. Developing such long range ICBM deem not neccessary.

No I mean some Chinese has been talking. China has in the past arrested American spies or at least Taiwanese spies.

If you read the full text it also confirms that PLA is not getting rid of older DF-5 ICBM's and instead "enhances" those missiles.

The longest ranged ballistic missile on the planet. :enjoy:

I hope we finish testing the HGV sooner rather than later, I'd love to see the DF-41 platform using HGV technology.

That title belongs to SS-18 with different mods having rage from 10,200 to 16,000 KM.

Read post #14 and #15.

DF-41 will be the longest range mobile ICBM. Although once you reach 12,000km, you can reach any point in the world. No need to go further than 14,000km.

Not true, for that you will require missile with 15,000 KM range.

Until the 2nd Arty deploy this monster, I'll just take Pentagon's assessment with a pinch of salt.

15000 km would be needed if China plans to nuke the southern tip end of Chile... China has no such plan... probably never will... unless, of course, penguins threaten to invade Beijing.

It is already developed and deployed many years ago. The US don't put most of the PLA developments in their report. These Pentagon reports are purely for political purposes. They don't reveal anything that is unknown to PLA watchers. If you keep up with PLA developments you would know that DF-51 is now under development since the DF-41 has been in operation for many years already. Anyone that thinks the DF-41 is not deployed really has no clue about Chinese military and should not be in Chinese military threads.

Well duh! Why would China get rid of old ICBMs when they can be upgraded?

Still the DF-41 is an impressive weapon, roughly comparable too our RS-24 in range and in payload :coffee:

DF-41 is comparable to the retired Peacekeeper, since it weighs over 60 tonnes.

DF-5 now has been upgraded into DF-5B with 10 MIRV capability.

Meanwhile its liquid fuel can be preserved for a long period, which is a tremendous upgrade from the traditional liquid fueled ICBMs.

R36 is silo icbm not road mobile icbm.
the oldst DF 5 can also reach 15000km,but useless in wartime
DF-5 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
silo ICBM will be the first target in nuclear war, most of them will be destroyed by stealth bomber like B2 before lauch.
actually even road mobile icbm is not safe enough against stealth bomber

I think only ssbn is safer

The silo based ICBMs would not be useless during the wartime.

Since the infrared satellites could provide you the early warning capability with the incoming enemy ICBMs.

Before the enemy ICBMs could reach and destroy your silo, your own ICBMs will already be lifted up to the air.

What i believe is, DF-5 could have evolved into solid fuel ICBM. But it will be one unrestricted by sizes. DF-31 and DF-31A size maybe more constraint due to the need of road mobile and lack of suitable bigger ICBM tractor.

Liquid fuel ICBM, no matter what will still need the lengthy process of refueling which makes it prone to counter. Solid fuel ICBM, no matter silo or road mobile, can fired within mins of preparation and makes them difficult to counter.

DF-5B will use the completely new type of liquid fuel, which can be injected first and preserved for many years, so you don't have to inject it in hurry during the wartime.
