so ill give away that this flyover with all the suspensions look very pretty. but what I fail to see is the point of making this thing 'fly' when all the area underneath it is empty? The road underneath is going the same direction as the flyover itself. so whats the point? have i missed something to obvious?

Clearly someone is working very hard to distrub Lahore & Lahoris, to show bad law and order situation.

Metro stations for orange line and current metro bus services. I am also confuse why they want to link minar-e-Pakistan with grand mosque, and datta darbar... Problem could be very small like space f or ursu which blocks this part of lahore for three days. Or may be something like big in making, but certainly there is a plan

System overhaul: Police diversification suggested to improve thana culture

LAHORE: The Police Department is being divided into six categories to change the thana culture and make the force more friendly towards people, Police Reforms Committee Chairman Shuja Khanzada said on Wednesday.

The six categories are Command and Control Centre, Crime Scene Investigation, Riot Police, Pool Net, Dolphin Police Unit and Anti-terrorism, he told the media.
Khanzada said that 600 cameras would be installed at sensitive locations in big cities in order to check crime and manage traffic. He said that 70 companies had contacted the government to install the cameras. “The company that will meet the standards of transparency will be given the contract to install the cameras,” he said.

He said work to set up the Command and Control Centre was underway and the project would be made operational by December. He said the scope of the centre would be extended to Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan next year.
Khanzada said the Dolphin Police Unit would be set up with the help of the Turkish government. He thanked Turkey for helping the Punjab government complete several project of public welfare.
He said the Turkish government had sent information technology experts to help the Punjab Police introduce IT in the department. The Turkish IT experts are training Punjab Police without charging any fee, he said.

Under the Pool Net Section, Khanzada said, the police record would be computerised. Criminal records would also be available in this section, he said.
He said with the introduction of the Pool Net Section, police would be able to respond quickly to public complaints.
He said that Riot Police personnel would be given special training in order to perform well during riots and unrest. The national police of Turkey would help Punjab Police set up the Riot Police section.

The provincial government has earlier said that Dolphin Unit Police will help eradicate street crime. It said that a team of Dolphin Police Unit would consist of four police officials. Turkish police experts would train officials of the unit that would start working towards the end the year.

Rs1.6b Japanese aid for water supply in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has approved Rs1.64 billion for replacing the outdated water supply and pumping machinery of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Faisalabad.

WASA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz said on Monday the agency had requested JICA to provide financial assistance for completion of new and existing water supply and sewerage projects.

“JICA responded positively and formally approved the release of funds worth Rs1.64 billion for replacing the old machinery with new one,” he said.

He said the Japanese-funded project would start in June 2015. “The Punjab government has assured us that it will provide Rs110 million for the project as well. The completion of this project will help save 20 percent electricity costs. It will also increase our water supply capacity by 40 percent,” Aziz said.

The official said WASA was still using equipment it had installed in 1991 which it had not been able to replace due to lack of fund.

“The old machinery for water supply pumping projects dating back to 1991 is the main cause of low water pressure. The administration had decided to replace the machinery with more powerful modern equipment. However that could not be done due to funding shortage,” he said.

“WASA is facing severe financial constraints. Several projects for improving water supply and sewerage system in the city have been put on hold due to this. Hardly 40 percent of the city’s population has access to government-supplied potable water,” Aziz said. He said the underground water in Faisalabad was brackish. “That is why WASA had to install tube-wells at Chenab River and then construct a 26-kilometre pipeline to bring this water to the city,” he said.

Faisalabad gets fancy new road washers

FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FWMC) has brought three mechanical washing vehicles to clean the city’s roads.

A ceremony in this regard was held at Kotwali Road on Wednesday. Faisalabad DCO Noorul Amin Mengal, FWMC Managing Director Amjad Awan, Transport Manager Zafar Dogar, Operations Manager Muhammad Ijaz and Administration Manager Ishtiaq Ahmed attended the ceremony.

The transport manager told the participants that the three vehicles had been purchased with a budget of Rs15 million.

“Initially, the mechanical vehicles will be washing the main squares and the city’s eight bazaars. The vehicles use pressurised water to wash roads,” Dogar said.

The DCO said modern equipment could play an important role in increasing cleanliness in the city. “It is important to include contemporary equipment in FWMC to make the waste management operations more effective,” he said.

FWMC MD Awan said Faisalabad was the first district after Lahore that had purchased such vehicles. “Our next target is to purchase mini dumpers for removing waste from the city,” the official said.

Funds allocated for RY Khan development projects

BAHAWALPUR: The annual meeting of the Rahim Yar Khan Developmental Committee was held on Monday. The meeting, chaired by Rahim Yar Khan DCO Nabeel Javed, decided funding for development schemes.

More than Rs4 billion was allocated for the construction of a road and bridge on the Indus River at Acha Bangla and Rs800 million was released for the project.

Rs3.5 billion was allocated for the Khawaja Ghulam Fareed University of Information Technology and Rs800 million was released.

Rs1.54 billion was allocated for the expansion of the Palace Road from Dari Sanghi to the Shaikh Zayed Palace and Rs100 million was released.

Over 432 million was allocated for various schemes in Khanpur and Rs100 million was released.

Around Rs289 million was allocated for the expansion of the road from Zahirpur to Khanpur and Rs100 million was released for the project by the officials.

The meeting allocated Rs106 million for the construction of a degree college for women in Rahim Yar Khan and released Rs50 million for the project.

For the construction of a general bus stand in Rahim Yar Khan, Rs195 million was allocated and Rs60 million was released.

Around Rs64 million was allocated for the construction of the Abbasia Underpass and Rs50 million was released.

For the construction of a women’s college in Manthaar, Rs50 million was allocated and Rs46 million was released as first installment.

The meeting allocated Rs138 million for the construction of a road from Taranda Muhammad Panah to Allahabad and released Rs50 million for the project.

Rs366 million was allocated for the construction of a road from Patan Minara to Manthaar and Rs50 million was released for the project.

Rs207 million was allocated for various water supply schemes in Feroza and Rs70 million was released for the projects.

Rs222 million were allocated for the construction of girls and boys degree colleges in Taranda Muhammad Panah, while Rs80 million were released for the projects.

For the construction of a boys degree college in Mianwali Qureshian, Rs111 million was allocated and Rs40 million was released.

The officials allocated Rs30 million for the expansion of the Government Boys Degree College, Khanpur, while Rs15 million was released for the purpose.

Rs46 million was allocated for the construction of boundary walls in 27 graveyards in Rahim Yar Khan.

Addressing the meeting, the DCO said that contractors should ensure the timely completion of the schemes.

“No negligence or corruption will be tolerated. The administration will take stern action if a complaint is received,” Javed said.

The DCO reprimanded the Public Health Department officials for the delay in the completion of sewerage schemes in Khanpur.

He also took note of the substandard work done on the Airport Road in Rahim Yar Khan and directed the Works department officials to take action against the contractor.

He directed the officials to repair the road within a week.

Solar panels based LED lights are the next steps here. Also, on your comment in bold above about fix the economics......what do you think these projects do to the economy? They create more jobs and business activity and help people, instead of just sitting around like its a "sit in"

When it rains so much in a limited amount of time, even in the US it causes flash flooding. You can't manage pouring rain for days without having floods, no matter what country you live in. I've witnessed these flash floods in New Jersey, Kansas, Iowa, California, Florida and pretty much across the country. Heck if you ever go to Florida around the ocean, it rains EVERY day for an hour or so and the highways have 4-6 inches of water swamps that remain there a couple of hours till after the rain ends. If the rain continues, the water pooling continues too. On a four lane highway, no one puts in drainage pipes the size of one lane. They are usually a foot or two in diameter.
