Detailed Analysis of possible future aircraft of the BAF

Countermeasures suite:
Type: Integrated EW suite designed specifically for use on the JAS 39 Gripen multirole combat aircraft.

Description :
EWS-39 is described as being an integrated EW suite that is built around a core radar warning/electronic support/passive missile approach warning capability and can interface with data provided by the host aircraft's radar, infra-red search and track system and ground control facilities to improve overall situational awareness. Functionally, sensor data is compared with a sensor/weapon system library to assess threat level, alert the host aircraft's pilot and initiate appropriate countermeasures. In terms of countermeasures provision, EWS 39 is reported to be able to handle `all' types of offboard, integrated and pod-mounted jamming pods and CounterMeasures Dispensing Systems (CMDS). While not confirmed or denied by Ericsson Saab Avionics, Jane's sources suggest that, aside from the core capabilities described above, the Gripen EW suite also appears to incorporate a mission dedicated jamming pod, an EW system control computer, `wingtip units', BOL chaff dispensers (see separate entry), the BO2D active towed decoy (see separate entry) and BOP CMDSs (see separate entry).

What are the strings attached to it?

Anything American usually do, but I don't think it'll be a big factor for Bangladesh since it's a small country.

Yup. Hence Gripen is an excellent choice. Ceck the THAI air force pics.

Its lethal and latest.

Go for quality in small numbers. meteor is indeed awesome.

Communications:
The aircraft has VHF / UHF transmitters and receivers from Saab Avitronics, and a Thales TSC 2000 identification friend or foe (IFF) system. An air-to-air data link allows real-time exchange of tactical data within and between cooperating air units.
In the attack and reconnaissance role, the data link allows radar-derived surface data to be transferred from one Gripen to a group of radar-silent attacking aircraft.

Thales TSC 2000 identification friend or foe (IFF) system:
Description
Developed by European Identification Systems (EIS - a 50-50 joint venture between EADS Defence Electronics and Thales France), the STR 2000 (German designation)/TSC 2000 (French designation) airborne IFF transponder is described by Jane's sources as incorporating a full Mk XII capability (as defined in STAndard NATO AGreement (STANAG) 4193) and as offering Mode S level 3 (as defined in International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Annex 10. As such, the equipment comprises a transponder and a dedicated Control and Display Unit (CDU). To facilitate Mode S levels 2 and 3 functionality (with all available communications protocols), STR/TSC 2000 makes use of its host platform Air Datalink Processor (ADP), with the unit being connected to the transponder's MILitary STanDard (MIL-STD) -1553B serial databus interface. So configured, STR/TSC 2000 provides remote terminal databus functions to facilitate bidirectional Mode S data exchange with the ADP. When not so organised, STR/TSC 2000 (together with its CDU) can provide an 'elementary' Mode S level 2 capability. The transponder also provides all the interfaces necessary for either an external or an appliqué Mode 4 cryptographic computer as standard. Upgrades of the system facilitate traffic collision avoidance system (as defined in Air Radio INCorporated (ARINC) 429) and Mode 5 functionality. Readers should further note that TSC 2000 has also been packaged in panel mounted (designated as TSC 2030) and remote control (TSC 2050) configurations.

Known drawback:
One of the Gripen’s handicap’s against competing fighters has been its range. A 38% jump in internal fuel capacity will help to offset weight and power increases, while extending the aircraft’s combat air patrol radius to 1,300 km/ 812 miles, and boosting unrefueled range to 2,500 km/ 1,560 miles. The landing gear is repositioned to accommodate those extra fuel cells. A payload increase from 8 to 10 underbody pylons for weapons and fuel also adds to the Gripen’s range, by allowing more external drop tanks. A new underwing 1,700 litre (450 gallon) fuel tank has been flown, and supersonic drop-tanks will also be tested in the future. With the full set of drop tanks, the JAS-39NG’s total flight range is expected to reach 4,075 km/ 2,810 miles.

Seen the Taurus vid? It's damn scary.

Gripen is the best for countries like Bangladesh,as it was proved by the Swiss recently & the NG version is quite advanced.

Cockpit:
Gripen cockpit

The cockpit is equipped with a Saab Avitronics EP-17 electronic display suite, with three multifunction displays and a wide-angle, 22x28 degree diffraction head-up display. The central head-down display provides tactical data superimposed on a computer-generated map. The displays on the left and right provide the flight data and the target data from the sensor suites.

A hot engine change can be made in 45 minutes by a team of three.

10 maintenance hours per flight hour, includes all depot level maintenance.

Twice as reliable as its competitors.

Twice as easy to repair.

Enough ground equipment to support four Gripens can be carried by a single C-130 Hercules.

The Gripen can be refuled and rearmed in less than 10 minutes.

An airborn time of 60 seconds is possible when on high alert with the APU running, all systems fully avaliable 10 seconds after take off. The F-16 needs 3-4 minutes, and its INS and radar will not be fully avaliable.

Gripen mean time between failures(MTBF) is proven to be 7.6 hours. USAF best MTBF is 4.1 hours.

The Gripen costs less than 2000$ per flight hour.

Airframe life is 8000 hours.

radar (JAS-39): 20% longer than RDY (M2000-5), and 40% longer than the AN/APG-68 for F-16C/D Block40/42.

7. While combating with the basic type of MIG-29 (MIG-29G??) in BVR engagement:

* JAS-39A: the effective range for Gripen to detect MIG-29 is 60 km longer than the effective range for MIG-29 to detect Gripen.

* F-16C/D: the effective range for Falcon to detect MIG-29 is 5 km longer than the effective range for MIG-29 to detect Falcon.

8. Maintenance of GRIPEN:
* The MTBF for JAS-39A is 7.6 flight hours, and the SAAB declared that the MTBF for the

USAF?s frontline fighters (except F/A-22 perhaps) is no more than 4.1 flight hours.

* The man hours of maintenance for each flight-hour: 12 man-hours initially, than reduced to 10 man-hours (F/A-18 E/F: 15 man hours of maintenance for each flight-hour).

* The charge for each flight-hour: 2,500 USD initially, than reduced to 2,000 USD.

Currently, flight costs per hour is $3500-$4000 (Varies by source)

Note, there are several variants of the MiG-29. I am not sure what variant are they referring to.

gripen is definetly an excellent option primary due to reduce cost of operation.
however US engine would make things a little complicated for most countires.

second it costs more than mig 29 j-10 and jf-17.
