Sir, in India one often has to wear a muslim skullcap to prove one's secularism.

This is a problem with India's secularism, and just shows how many hindus and muslims have no clue what secularism means. That includes practically all Pakistanis the way they keep abusing that word secularism, as if its some religious text. Just accept you have no clue what that is.

In any case our secularism is not perfect, but our idea and desire is, we want everyone to be equal and religion to play no role. Despite the challenges we face, our founding idea is sound.

Care to elaborate on the ratio of between Hindus/Muslim killed, and how many Muslim families remain displaced to the day.

1,500/150,000,000 = 0.00001% of the Indian Muslim population got killed.

I think the precentage of minorities in India today is around 20% (15% muslims) and in Pakistan its around 2% (1% Hindus). I wonder what the numbers were in 1947?

The threadstarter living in the UK should understand that secularism is not about donning a Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Christian etc headgear and misleading people of different faiths that you identity with them for votes. Only the Congress Party of India are experts at vote banking and lying to people that secularism means "I love Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Hinduism etc and therefore you should vote for me". Secularism is all about the government staying out of religion and vice versa.

As for Modi, I am sceptical about his credentials as future PM. He still has to answer for his omission to control those riots. Too many people died in that madness and the fact is that he was captain of the ship then. It maybe better for the BJP to omit him as a candidate for PM until the issue of those riots and his alleged role in failing to control the situation is explained. It isn't about Muslim or Hindu or whatever deaths. It is about Indian deaths and he needs to explain why so many Indians were killed in those riots
