No. There are many Persian, Turkish and Arabic words in Urdu, but a guy who only speaks Farsi cannot understand Urdu or Hindi. (Urdu in fact comes from Ordu, the Turkic word for Army)

Urdu and Hindi are basically the same language which earlier used to be called Hindustani. Since Persian was the State Language of Mughals, many Persian words got added to Hindustani. While the Muslims prefer more Persianized Hindustani, now called Urdu, the Hindus prefered Sanskritized Hindustani, now called Hindi.

Ok thank you, yes their was/is a Turkic influence in the region. Mughals were Turks who adopted Persian culture that ruled India.

I need to know if Persians can understand Urdu speakers.

Another difference is that written Urdu is more Persianized than spoken Urdu. Hence, a Persian guy might understand/recognise several words in a Urdu sentence, but he cannot communicate freely with normal Urdu speakers. (The Pakistani National Anthem is highly Persianized Urdu. I have a few Pakistani friends. They always joke that even they cannot understand the meaning of all words in Pakistani National Anthem)

p.s: There are many Turkic words in Hindi too. Example Hava, Kitab, Insan, Hayvan etc

No/very little. They can get a few words, not the language.

Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language. Urdu has more Persian words whereas Hindi has more Sanskrit words.

Yes, Indians and Pakistani's understand each other perfectly.

Urdu uses the Perso-Arabic script. Hence, a Persian can read Urdu, but he cannot fully understand Urdu. It's like an Englishman reading Turkish(which is now written in Roman alphabets) but not understanding it.

Yes, there are many Turkic words in Hindi. Let's not forget that - regardless of many events of history, prior to the invasions, the region was rich in cross cultural influences. Music also has had a great cross breeding from Mesopotamia to the Ganges plains. Let's not ignore the good that we all got from our forefathers from times unknown.
