Now that I have your attention, I'd like to talk about something very important that often makes me cringe.
There is something wrong with the mindset of majority of Pakistanis.
They fail to see the light of reason and instead prefer to base their decisions and opinions by virtue of religious sayings, political tilt or most of the time, hearsay.
One prime example is the open bashing and lambasting of the modern peoples in our country as being "desi liberals", "liberal fascists" and "pseudo-intellectuals"/"pseudo-liberals" with all these terms being used interchangeably very often on Pakistani social media.
99, or I'd rather say 100% of the time the people who use such terms (especially the definition of 'fascist') do not even know what they mean or in what context such terms are used.
Our 2-faced attitude towards religion, intolerance of progressive and non-Islam religion's views are also a part of this twisted mindset. We expect people in other countries to be tolerant of Islam but when it comes to Islam being tolerant of others there is suddenly a lot of blasphemy (read beheading and murder in the name of Allah) involved.
People who prefer to use sanity and well thought out arguments for their opinion are criticized as being wannabes, fake and liberals are called "Agents of the West" and openly declared Kaafirs.
Anyone who speaks up against Mullahs and/or radicalization is forcefully hushed or ignored.
Why this stupidity? Why is it that people refuse to accept facts and instead prefer to provide counter arguments to prove how "more wrong" the opposing opinion is than their own?
The following image was the tipping point which finally forced me to type down this post:
The original comment in whose reply all the follow up replies can be seen, was:
"Civil Society or Liberal Fascists?" by the same user Basit Dar.
What boggled me was that it was top comment with over 30 likes!
Please discuss what could be the reasons for such idiocy which runs rampant in our Pakistani society and what could be done about it.
