What's new

Desalination Plants higher priority vs Oil refineries

Water can be transported by a canal , think of it like a trench filled with water
we just dug up 500 km trench by the afghan border but this new trench will be for water transportation

If Pakistan can spend resources and man power to dig a trench by Afghan border then folks this project of water is no different

If Imran Khan is serious about creating job , such a national project is bound to create lot of Engineering and Labor Jobs and after it is completed it will continue to revenue from water produced and distributed

High Quality Jobs : Engineering , Planning , Management
Middle Class Jobs : Junior Graduates , Machine operators, Supervisors
Working Laborer Jobs: Hard labor jobs

.
Considering the water shortages in Pakistan since 60's it is important to have desalination plants constructed ASAP in order to develop artificial sources of water

Suprised none of Saudia / Qatar or UAE were talked to about Water Distribution Investment opportunities in Pakistan

a) Lakes
b) Distribution network Canals for purified water from sea

Private investors should be invited to big on Desalination water plants and water should be sold to Provinces produced from these plants

Water could be purchased by Provinces for

a) Water supply needs for Industries
b) Water supply needs for city green plants and parks
c) Water supply need of areas which face water shortages

Oh yes. We also need to improve our water related degree programs. There is so much confusion.

.
No special Degree is needed for it ...

We already have programs

a) Chemical Engineering
b) Mechanical Engineering
c) Electrical Engineering

You will use expensive nuclear energy to produce water and then transport it over open trenches and store in artificial lakes so that all of it evaporates?

.
Drought hit Pakistan should also do some thing to stop rain water and river water going into the sea.

.
Nuclear Tech is cheapest as it does not involves a 10 billion cost to setup a dam

Construction Cost of DAM = 10,000,000,000 USD (10 Billion Dollar) and 5 years construction

Construction Cost of Nuclear Power plant = 400 Million constructed in 1.5 years
Construction Cost of Desalination Unit = 200-400 Million constructed 1.5 years

Only Emission they have is Water Vapor , the nuclear by product is captured and burried under ground where it becomes normal after 50 years

  • Running Electric Trains in Asia , Europe
  • Running Subways , and Transit Trains in North America
  • Lighting up Stadiums for Lights
  • Lighting up Industrial zones
  • Lighting up Homes

Red Lines are Supply lines and Blue lines are soft release in environment to make it more greener and perhaps some water is constantly filling a large "Lake"

  • Water distribution , turns desert , rocky , muddy areas into a farm friendly zones
  • Population stuck on congested areas like Karachi /Hyderabad can disperse to new farming areas cheaper land
  • Local Population in Baluchistan or Sindh who had no access to water can benefit from forming small farms in new fertile land

I am very surprised that everyone is talking about nuclear power plants and electricity from other sources for operating desalination plants.
Why not Solar energy , the initial costs might be little high but the output will be cheap and sustainable in long term. Thats the cheapest energy you can get in your coastal areas. Alternatively wind can also be seen as a resource.

.
The answer lies in initial cost for Solar plant setup is high for same amount of energy produced from Hydro or Nuclear Plants

Easy to see if Pakistan also started to think about our land same way with industrial approach we can also change great regions of Pakistan

I think Pakistan needs to do some of this on our own abilities as well
Sometimes some of these exchange programs help train 40-50 people per year etc

But in order to industrialize Pakistan has to think about this with mindset of 5,000,000 (5 million new farmers) Farmers and Engineers enabled with Modern Technology

But like Saudi Arabia has benefited from Technology for Desalination , we should certainly attain that as well for farming and reducing the cost to own land and farming

PHASE I A : Establishment of 4-5 Desalination plants across the coastal lines (International Project)
PHASE I B : Setup of New Nuclear Energy Plants (International Project)
PHASE II : Great Coastal Canal Network (Local Engineering)
PHASE III : Water Production & Distribution of water
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sale to farmers or Industrial Sale to Companies

PHASE IV : Sale of Farming Land, Planning of Education for New Farmers
PHASE V : Setup of New Cattle Farming , Chicken Farms , Ostrich Farms , Date Tree plants
PHASE VI : Redirect of Unused water to a Artificial Lake

Possible Options
Desalination plant sellers : USA, Japan, Germany etc
Nuclear Power plant : China presently reliable partner
Water Distribution : Local Engineering Universities
