What's new

Deputy Secretary Information PTI says we are going to back to 2017-2018.

you do not reach article. Reserve are maintain means that we borrowed from other balance sheet to maintain the balance sheet. Our CAD was 775 million so we are not printing dollar or we not stopping imports number in fact it is increasing. So the borrowed money did not went in Reserve as in July the reserve falled nearly 389 million dollar after getting 1 billion dollar euro bond. Therefore, we are borrowing to maintain the reserve and fill CAD gaps as we not getting the desired amount that we wanted from FDI and RDA due to massive devaluation.

Remember one more thing we have to pay 1 billion dollar euro bond on 13th October.
Situation seems to be very precarious... What is the impact on common Pakistani due to this...
Could we not just stop importing stuff?

Please increase the wages and earnings of people then.
Increase productivity first. Pakistani economy has extremely low productivity. It can't even compete with regional powers but want to live in luxury like developed or oil rich economies

I'd be interested to see what we're importing. If it's stuff that will help setup industry - maybe the short term pain is worth it. I suspect it's still frivolous stuff.

There are a million things that could be done to help this situation but the govt just doesn't seem to want to make drastic steps.

It seems we've moved from incompetence and heavy corruption to incompetence with somewhat reduced corruption (at least at the top).

impossible

all this mess is due to our lack of mid and long term planning.

the question about stopping imports is very interesting.

It would be also very helpful to analyse our imports and devise a plan about what could be easily produced in Pakistan on short or mid term (5ish years) : skills needed from manufacturing to selling and marketing etc, training if needed, and low rate taxe incentive for few years etc, => creation of jobs inside Pakistan with salary respecting a minimum level which allow correct life + a little bit savings

Then devise a plan about what could be produced inside Pakistan but which requires higher level skills as engineering etc for productions, level of investment in machinery etc. This planning should take care of the trends of the market and trends about technologies , about what would people like to do or buy in 10, 15 or 20 years. So this plan should focus on education, sciences, technologies, etc it will allow us to have the required skilled workforce in the future. Then in few years we could reduce importations of many goods and services. And why not start to offer others things than textiles and mangoes.

People are such retards, I don't understand their problem!?

Rupee should be at its real value! We can not support rupee artificially!!! Any "gains" achieved by manipulation of rupee's value against the dollar are not real gains! This is the true worth of our economy! Deal with it! Fix it! Stop using everything imported! Government should ban gazillions of unnecessary imported things, we have dozens of types of cat & dog foods selling at every grocery store? Why? Everything which has a suitable alternative i.e. made in Pakistan should be banned form import! Importers should use the same money to invest locally or re-channel it into things that we can't make locally.
