Its simple really.
More developed countries are heavily taxed thus requiring great amounts of time spent working. That reduces interactions and character development. Which leads to cracks in the societal makeup and teachings. Which results in multiple issues. Look at the Japanese and Koreans. The Chinese are heading on the same path. Everyone is busy, busy, busy. Simply put we as a society are starting to fail. The current systems arent human and don't take the fact that we are humans, into mind.

It boggles me that when havent figured out a proper method. That balances our lives. Heck the people in the ancient world were far more socially aware then us.

This is generally true. However again it has to do with Standard of Living. You can live on a farm in the middle of nowhere and not pay much taxes. The negative is you'll get no public services. So you get what you pay for.
