Dems threaten Pakistan over jet delivery

.
I think it is safe to say i brought "Wetdream" offically to this forum....lol

.
Some where on the thread on 'F-16 Sale' I have commented this. Uncle SAM is never reliable. I also predicted that F-16 delivery is in jeopardy and still say that it is never sure that Pakistan would get them any time(sooner or later)!
Stop dealing with USof A. Even Air-to-Air missiles, frankly to say, is just a 'Lolly-pup', never going to come in Pakistan hands easily, as it is projected. Write it down.

True but I think you gentlemen should take heed to history. NO country can be regarded as being totally reliable. What if China (Or Russia in the case of India) decides to change policy? If you disregard other sources then you will find that there is a dwindling market out there.

What any smaller nation needs to do is play the game...and play the game well. Besides the panicked reactions were kind of amusing to me. very few of you here thought about the whole effect of any American sanctions upon Pak.

Here's a little run through for you......

1)America applies sanctions........

2)Pak withdraws support for Nato ops in Afghanistan (as well as any political support for any attack on Iran)

3)America's situation is worse......

4)Pak purchases it's arms elsewhere...

It has been speculated on other forums that the reason for the smaller f-16 (18 with an option for 18 more ) will reduce any effects of sanctions.

True keysersoze, True.
But then we have seen people right in this forum boasting thier relations with USA, putting aside all caution and care. Moreover, for a track record, you would never find total numbers of betrail committed by entire world super powers compared to only one, USA! This is a fact. Russia or China, for that matter has not done anything like this in recent past (I mean atleast around 10 years now). Not so with USA.
So you decide yourself.

:lol: It's amusing to see the snap reactions of a few people due to false news report.....

Time for a reality check for some I fear...

What new does the news report states? the first one specifically said jets and the second one said military assistance. Jets are a part of the military assistance, so i feel its prone to delays.

You are the one who is over reacting. US might not go for sanctions but hold back the delivery for a leter date, harpoons, AA missiles everyhting would be delayed.

Just put your clock back and see what happened when the F-16 was blocked by pressler amendment.

And who are other parties you have?

Over reacting me? :lol:

Look the thing you have to remember is this. The resolution was a "non-binding" Even the democrats (who have nothing to lose by making these statements as they do not make policy yet) are astute enough to know if they play hardball here, then they will lose a VITAL ally in the area. They are well aware of the balancing act that Musharraf has to do. after all who else can they ask to help in the region...IRAN? Because Pak has diversified it's major purchases. It has alternatives to U.S. equipment.China for example.

The Previous embargo was during a period when the U.S. had nothing to lose by punishing Pak for the Nuclear tests. Now they will have the situation in Afghan and also the Chinese gaining even more influence in the region.

Speculations and Wishful thinking. Nothing else.

Hi,

The threat to pakistan at this stage was uncalled for. Obviously the american senate is not thinking with their heads. There has to be a limit to the stupidity of every politician, but some of them indeed do find to go beyond.

Even india would become wary of this about face-----because in future, india would be dealing with the americans-----and if the americans can do it to pakistan, there is notjing that would stop the americans to do it to the indians.

Senate approves bill on US aid restrictions

By Anwar Iqbal

WASHINGTON, March 14: The US Senate has overwhelmingly approved a legislation featuring restrictions on US military assistance to Pakistan as well as calls for restoration of democracy.

The legislation, approved on Tuesday evening, aims at implementing many of the remaining reforms suggested by the Sept 11 commission.

The House of Representatives has already approved a similar version which calls for harsher restrictions on US aid to Pakistan.

On March 7, Senators John Kerry, Christopher Dodd and Joe Biden submitted an amendment to the Senate version, saying: “US military assistance to Pakistan should be guided by demonstrable progress by the government of Pakistan in achieving certain objectives related to counterterrorism and democratic reforms.”

The bill was approved with the amendment, which also urges Pakistan to help dismantle existing proliferation networks and prevent nuclear proliferation.

“A democratic, stable, and prosperous Pakistan that is a full and reliable partner in the struggle against Al Qaeda and the Taliban and a responsible steward of its nuclear weapons and technology is vital to the national security of the United States and to combating international terrorism,” says the amendment.

It notes that since Sept 11, 2001, Pakistan has been an important partner in removing the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and combating Al Qaeda and international terrorism, “engaging in operations that have led to the deaths of hundreds of Pakistani security personnel and enduring acts of terrorism and sectarian violence that have killed many innocent civilians.”

But it also notes that “senior US military and intelligence officials have stated that the Taliban and Al Qaeda have established critical sanctuaries in Pakistan from where Al Qaeda is rebuilding its global terrorist network and Taliban forces are crossing into Afghanistan and attacking Afghan, US, and International Security Assistance Force personnel.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved, that it is the sense of the Senate that:

(1) It is the policy of the United States:

(a) To maintain and deepen its long-term strategic partnership with Pakistan;

(b) To work with the government of Pakistan to combat international terrorism and to end the use of Pakistani territory as a safe haven for Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated terrorist organisations, including through the integration and development of Fata;

(c) To work with the government of Pakistan to dismantle existing proliferation networks and prevent nuclear proliferation;

(d) To work to facilitate the peaceful resolution of all bilateral disputes between Pakistan and its neighboring countries;

(e) To encourage the transition in Pakistan to a fully democratic system of governance; and

(f) To implement a robust aid strategy that supports programmes in Pakistan related to education, governance, rule of law, women's rights, medical access, and infrastructure development; and

(2) The determination of appropriate levels of US military assistance to Pakistan should be guided by demonstrable progress by the government of Pakistan in:

(a) Preventing Al Qaeda and associated terrorist organisations from operating in the territory of Pakistan, including by eliminating terrorist training camps or facilities, arresting members of Al Qaeda and associated terrorist organisations, and countering recruitment efforts;

(b) Preventing the Taliban from using the territory of Pakistan as a sanctuary from which to launch attacks within Afghanistan, including by arresting Taliban leaders, stopping cross-border incursions, and countering recruitment efforts; and

(c) Implementing democratic reforms, including by allowing free, fair and inclusive elections at all levels of government in accordance with internationally recognised democratic norms.”

Rather than go for another blood bath in the Tribal regions, money should be provided to Pakistan on more precision-guided weaponry, UAVs and intelligence systems. Furthermore I believe aid meant for development, education, health, etc, should be implemented directly by American organizations. Bar a few individuals the vast majority of the Pakistani government is insanely corrupt.

the usa is run by lobby groups namely the pro israeli lobby which can block anything it wants trust me dont rely on usa for yr military the israeli lobby will never allow pakistan to be high tech

Dont worry dude.......Pakistan working hard these days for its self relience...JF-17 Thunder was the 1st step in that movement........For sure Pakistan knows how reliable US can be, thats why they reduced the number of F-16's to 18.......while on the other hand acquiring J-10 from China.
