Following the Supreme Court ruling on Thursday, students in large numbers hit the streets in Coimbatore and Trichy. A students’ march in Madurai, known for Jallikattu events, turned violent and police resorted to lathi-charge to control the situation.

A leading Jallikattu organiser told The Indian Express that they have decided to organise the sport this year even if it meant going against the apex court ruling.
He said, “We have been law-abiding citizens for long. But this time, the Supreme Court too joined the anti-Jallikattu group by refusing to pass the order before January 14. If Kerala can disobey the apex court in the Mullaperiyar issue and Karnataka can defy its order in the Cauvery water issue, why should Tamil Nadu alone obey the Centre’s and the Supreme Court’s biased stand against Tamil culture and people’s sentiments?”

Indian Supreme Court whose judges do not know Tamil history, tradition, literature or culture deciding on Tamil traditions is outrageous.

May be AIADMK Suprema Sasikala declare independence for Tamip Nadu and get out of Indian Supreme court orbit, as a DMK minister Rajaram tried to do in 1974 asking America for help to declare independence. Just thinking aloud. All you Indian patriots don't jump at me.

thats not true - the bulls are well trained, fed and looked after through out the yr before Jallikattu - a one day event. Indian media n NGOs with vested interest) have project it negatively as cruelty event. Bull owners who care their bulls as their own children will never allow physical abuse to their bull before or during Jallikaktu (these are highlighted by Tamil media or video clips , but never by Indian-English media) )

dead jallikattu bulls are buried and memorials built , not sent to slaughter houses. Don't see Tamilnadu thru the Indian eyes, Tamils are culturally and racially different from Indians. Tamils had a strong cultural links with Far East and South East Asia. Thus naturally Tamils will be a strong ally to China

this is exactly how the Indians feel - assume it will be a temporary protest that will eventually fade into oblivion, that's the reason why they are not budging to Tamils demand to lift the ban

However the issue had achieved the following
1) increased the awareness/popularity of Jallikattu
2) united Tamils (regardless of political, caste or religious affiliation)
3) now Jallikattu (with no regulation) is held in every village across Tamilnadu - defying the Indian ban
4) resentment towards India and the call for separation (for evidence you need to follow Tamil sources)

Its long term impact - time will decide .
