Why do we Indians have to compare our country to China? You think economic prosperity is the sole desire of human beings? Do you think religious and cultural development is unnecessary? What makes you think modernity and economic growth is entirely synonymous with concrete superstructures? We are happy with our country and the way it is going ahead; we do not want to compare ourselves with the PRC. India's greatest strength is and will be its democracy. Be rest assured we will be a developed nation within the next century. And when I say "developed," I mean development that is not merely economic, but social, cultural, political, and human.
The problem with China is there are infinite checks on how far you can go ahead and criticise the government and its policies, regardless of whether the government or its policies are right or wrong. If you think we are against China, we are not. What we are against is the CCP and its dominance over the mind and soul of China and Chinese. Why do most Chinese forget that China is much more than the CCP? Further, merely because we criticize and question the CCP and its policies, why is it that you assume we are anti-China and biased? This, along with your comments quoted above, is ample proof of your intellectual maturity. CCP is a bankrupt institution that is "ruling" China by virtue of propaganda and farce.
When the CCP was staying true to its roots (communism), China was amongst the lesser developed countries of the world. Only when the CCP embraced capitalism (which by virtue is a "democratic economy"), there took place a "rise" of China. If the CCP believes that what it has done has been good for China and its citizens than why is it so afraid to contest free elections, and establish its popularity?
By the way, democracy is the only solution to Pakistan’s problems; this is not my view, it is the view of millions of Pakistanis who voted for the candidates they wanted to get elected. The only thing that Pakistanis and their army have to realize is that patience is one of the primary requirements of democracy.
There has been must debate on this initiated by Ddxbryz and this is one of the reply on which we can start.
Democracy, in a nut shell means "By the People, for the People and Of the People".
Both India and Pakistan have and are Democracies. India has had an uninterrupted stint of democracy while Pakistan has had interruptions.
Indians may have been laid back to accept what comes there way, while Pakistan may have demanded a proper governance. Each to their own ways.
In comparison, China has had one totalitarian regime that has no methodology for the citizens to exercise their choice. The State decides what is good for them and thus a parent - infant equation is there for the Chinese young and ageing adults. Fair enough.
However, what is followed by China is not ' for the People, of the People and By the People' and therefore Ddzryzx is incorrect to feel that China has a democracy. I will concede it has a totalitarian regime that dictate the will of the govt over the will of the people.
I will also refrain for the moment as to whether it is good or not good.
I will only comment that it is a question of mindset. Some like to be dictated and spoon-fed and some like to etch out their own destiny and Pakistan has done it recently! Have they done the right thing? None can tell excepting time.
Whether it works out or not, at least the feeling that they are the Masters of their Soul and Captains of their Fate, as in India and Pakistan (if one goes by the media and some posts here), is an exhilarating feeling and a breath of freedom as human beings. It is a great feeling that none who have not experienced it can understand.
China , right now, is in a unusual state. It has abandoned Mao and all Communist principles and instead has adopted the Communist hated Capitalist form of economy. And worse, is that the Chinese people, deprived of the ''goodies'' of capitalism has gone crazy over Capitalist wonders like crass commercialism. Today, an international brand command greater respect than an equally comparable, but cheaper Chinese product.
The differences between the have and havenots are a chasm.
Therefore, to compare Pakistan and India to China is as good as comparing chalk to cheese and claiming that they are same.
Democracy and Totalitarianism are and can never be the same.
It is like comparing humans to robots, even though robots maybe more efficient.
Sadly, robots have no mind of their own.
Humans do!
