A Pakistani die-hard fan of Indian batsman Virat Kohli is facing up to 10 years imprisonment after being arrested for hoisting the Indian tri-colour atop his home in Punjab Province which he had done to show his love for the cricketer.

22-year-old Umar Draz, a tailor by profession from Okara district of Punjab province, was on Wednesday produced before a district court that sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Draz was arrested on January 26 when India beat Australia in a T20 match in which Kohli scored 90 runs. Police raided Draz home on a complaint that he hoisted the Indian flag on the rooftop of his house.

Police registered a case under section 123-A of Pakistan Penal Code and 16 Maintenance of Public Order against him.

The section 123-A (acts of damaging the sovereignty of the country) carries maximum punishment of 10 years in jail or fine or both.

Draz pleaded before the judge that he hoisted the Indian flag only for his love for Kohli.

Police had sought his physical remand for investigation into the case, however, the judge sent him to jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, talking to reporters, Draz said, “I am a big fan of Virat Kohli. I support the Indian team because of Kohli. Hoisting of Indian flag on the rooftop of house only shows my love for the Indian cricketer.”

He said he had no idea that he committed a crime, urging the authorities concerned to pardon him as he should be seen as “an Indian cricketer’s fan.”

Poster size photographs of Kohli were also found pasted on the walls of his house.

Police seized the flag along with Kohli’s posters and pictures.

Buddy ...for refrendum there are some pre requisits to complete ....Pakistan is not sticking to them but after Shimla agreement , we are not bound to follow the UN resolutions ..no third party even UN cant interfere in this
its a bilateral discussion and why not start with PAkistani Occupied Kashmir ... as its also part of Kashmir

I dont know they should start the talks ...earlier they were stopped by Mumbai attacks ...then by Pathankot attacks ... but they should talk and restore them . I dont hate Pakistanis and I am responsible for myself only , there are always good and bad people .. I met a lot of good Pakistanis almost from all your provinces except Kashmir and believe me Kashmiris will get support from other parts of India if Pakistan dont interfere , I myself against use of such force against civilians

Blaming Pakistan is itself refusing to acknowledge problem and self correction. We interfered in past, not now. It is all because of India's criminal negligence that Kashmir is suffering up til now, people shouldn't be mistreated in a such a brutal way...

Usage of pellet guns proves that even India doesn't consider Kashmiris a part of India. No body use pellet guns and other related stuff so brutally on people unless there are different people of different part/culture with whom u don't have any sense of belonging or unless there is too much hate, frustration and anger in user's mind and heart regarding certain population of xyz background.

Recent uprising by people of Kashmir has openend up the eyes of people of europe and burst your bubble of accusing Pakistan's hand in uprising Kashmir. You and Kashmir have been at beef with each other since 1947. Everyone knows that. Now you're giving it sectarian color "wahabi goons" because it is easy to sell in western world. Kashmiris are highly educated folks and if they have problems with India, there is need to work upon.
