India is clearly no country for women. Seven men gangraped a nurse in Punjab's Mansa district on Wednesday. Now, here's the irony. She happens to be a Delhi based-nurse who was part of the team of doctors, who treated 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist, who was brutally gang-raped inside a moving bus in the national capital by six people on 16 December, 2012.
According to a report, the nurse was picked up by her friend's husband from Budhlada railway station and taken to an isolated place. She was gang-raped there and taken back to the railway station. When she tried to raise an alarm at the station the accused fled. Police have registered a case under Section 376 of IPC and arrested two accused - Balwinder Singh Kala and Manwinder - in connection with the case. Strangely, the woman has refused to undergo medical test.
Reports claim that the woman knew one of the accused, who is said to be the husband of her ailing friend. The nurse's friend's husband gave a call to her asking her to visit Punjab since his wife was not well.
A report in the Deccan Chronicle quoted BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra as saying:
"This is a matter of grave concern. She is not only Nirbhaya's nurse , she is a nurse, she is a women and I believe such kind of behaviour towards women is not only deplorable but this is something beyond contemplation. Strictest action should be taken against those who have done this to the good nurse."
Reacting to the incident chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women Barkha Shuklla Singh said:
"Like it has been reported that she has been gangraped, her medical tests and her statements must be recorded. If she is not doing it, then it must be probed and the Punjab police must look into all of this so that the truth comes out of it."
Reports said the nurse was also robbed of many valuable items, including jewellery, cash and other items.
