Yes, we have a problem here, and we do recognize the problem. There has been nationwide protests against such crimes with solidarity that the World has never seen before.
Although statistics wise India fares quite low in the list, 1.8/100,000 in comparison to 28/100,000 in US, a large number of these incidents are happening in the regions in and around Delhi.While it is also interesting to note that the criminals involved are not from Delhi itself, rather they are from the adjoining places,mainly U.P, mostly working on low-wage jobs.
The police is on high alert, but that is not enough, and no matter how much policing you do, you cannot stop a crime before it happens.
There should be a proper study conducted with the aim of finding out, what is specially wrong in these regions, a problem not present in rest of India. If I am not mistaken, a few such studies are underway.
