A student organisation from Bangladesh, the Islamic Chhatra Shibir (ICS), is under the scanner of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for alleged involvement in the September 7 Delhi High Court blast.
NIA officials claim that at least two students from the ICS, along with medical student Wasim Akram Malik a resident of Kishtwar studying in Dhaka were involved in the blast that killed 15 people and left nearly 80 injured. This is the first time that the suspected involvement of ICS in terror activities in India is coming to light, said the officials.
Wasim, who was arrested by the NIA on October 7, reportedly revealed during interrogation that two Bangladeshi nationals participated in the attack. Officials claimed to have identified the two ICS members, and are now seeking diplomatic help in tracing them. The duo are reported to have travelled with Wasim to India on August 27, first visiting Jammu and then Delhi. A team from NIA is already camping in Bangladesh.
According to officials, the ICS in Bangladesh has been involved in indoctrinating youths from various universities and recently made inroads into medical and engineering colleges in Dhaka.
Islam, the moderate way of life, we believe, is the only solution to all the unrest and chaos in this worldly life and hereafter... If we do not do so, terrible consequences awaits the whole nation we will be in infernal sufferings both here and hereafter, says the organisation on its Facebook page.
Bangladesh Islamic Chhatra Shibir is trying to do this job in the arena of students proselytising the youth to the creed and message of Islam, inspiring them to acquire Islamic knowledge and stirring up in them the sense of responsibility to practice Islam in full, it adds.
Investigators claim that in the past, the ICS has come under the scanner for owing allegiance to Pakistan's ISI. Wasim reportedly revealed that he is a self-styled commander. His brother, Junaid, is reported to be a Hizbul Mujahideen commander. It was Junaid who is alleged to have provided the explosives for the blast, said an NIA official.
Meanwhile, NIA officials also claimed to have found the laptop that was used by Wasim while he was studying at a medical college in Dhaka. They suspect that Wasim used this laptop to send directions to his younger brother, Junaid, who is absconding, and Aamir Abbas Dev, another youth from Kishtwar who has since been arrested. The seized laptop has been sent to a forensic lab for further analysis, as the agency is trying to retrieve some files purportedly deleted by Wasim.
