Chennai: With complaints of Chinese companies installing malicious malware and virus in devices sold to public sector companies and defence establishme*nts in India, the Union government has ord*ered Defence Resea*rch and Devel*opment Organisation (DRDO) to develop indigenous IT hardware, which would soon replace Chinese products.

Former secretary, department of defe*nce R&D, director-general DRDO and scientific advisor to defence minister V. K. Saraswat in an informal chat with DC raised his deep concern about the use of information technology in every discipline, including, banking, reservation, defence, air transportation, sea logistics and agriculture in India. “If IT is compromised then entire country can be crippled. You need not wage a war across the border now,” he said.

Pointing out that India imports IT hardware, including small cellphones and computer routers from China, Saraswat said these hardware comes with malware, Trojan horses or any spoofing device which could be triggered remotely. “These devi*ces can extract data from your computer and you might not know that it had happened. There has been many cases where data from many Ind*ian government agencies had gone this way,” he added.

In an attempt to take on cyber attack by the Chinese, a committee with national security advisor as its head asked DRDO to develop indigenous hardware which would replace the Chinese equipment.

“DRDO has already started to design and develop these items under the cyber security programme. We have also embarked on a major mission to reduce dumping of electronic goods from China in a big way, as beyond a certain level you (China) cannot dump in a particular nation,” he added.

I dont understand the word "help" here....

None of the products coming from china are free....Indian companies pay back for everything....

FYI....India produces all the electricity equipment....But chinese ones come cheaper...n i guess u know how the private sector works...they buy the cheapest available...

Telecom equipment...yes India imports quite a lot and doesnt really have production facilities....but whats with the term "help" ??....Huawei itself is vying and lobbying to set up a huge base in India with more than a Billion dollar investment....

So FYI....come out of ur illusion of China "HELPING" India...its pure business my friend

also...ive often seen this stuff which i personally feel is propaganda...

When the first prototypes for Mumbai Metro rolling stock (being imported from China produced by CSR Nanjing) were unveiled....there were reports in state controlled media that China is "HELPING" India build its metro rails....

n a common person wouldnt even notice that It was actually India who was actually "HELPING" CSR Nanjing increase profits...

just an example i wanted to share....

Your point is not valid importing from china also increases trade deficit with china. so when its produced inhouse it doesnt have that deficit and also insecurity of some guys will also be resolved ..

India, US and every country ( NATO) practically have said this about China- so it is not a India only thing. The evidence produced is powerful & called " Made in China"

I don't know if the Russians even use Chinese for these purposes, but in all seriousness when you have flags being thrown up by host of countries ( their intelligence) then it is a concern whether you are sensitive to it as a Chinese or not

What the DRDO Director-General has said is not an unfounded speculation, such threats are real.
