What's new

Defence Ministry’s Rs 13500 crore warship order will throw up a major opportunity for private sector

It will be an Indigenous design. No need to go for foreign maal when we can design and build awesome warships ourselves.

There's no need to go for that bro. I think our Indigenous design will do just fine.
So far we dont have any 40+knots vessels of this size,nd we never designed such erlier. So nothing wrong in going for established pump jet propelled vessel of this size.

We have a partner who is doing exactly this....
Israel and SAAR class.
8SSM and 32SAM along with a naval gun, CIWS ,etc.... all packed in quite small ship. I envy them lol

The Sa'ar 6 has a displacement of 2,000 tons and is 90 m (300 ft) long. It is armed with an Oto Melara 76 mm main gun, two Typhoon Weapon Stations, 32 vertical launch cells for Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles, the C-Dome point defense system, 16 anti-ship missiles, the EL/M-2248 MF-STAR AESA radar, and two 324 mm torpedo launchers. It has hangar space and a platform able to accommodate a medium class SH-60-type helicopter.

Oh, you are referring to the Israeli navy variant of the GERMAN K-130 'Braunschweig' corvette? This has hangars space only for UAVs. The deck could operate an SH-60 though.

At present,I can think of only two classes of ships that can fulfill all these requirements

Gowind class corvette

Gremyashchy class corvette

Gowind 2500 will to 25 knots top.
Gremyashchy class 26 knots.

It is supposed to be a missile ship. Something that will replave e.g. Veer class, I would shink.
Start thinking more along the lines of the so-called Saar-72

Yes sir, .... Maybe I should replace Israel with Germany and then every thing would be fine ...

But on a serious note are there any other drawbacks other than limited range of the SAAR5/6?

Every corvette design with the exception of Freedom and Independence maxes out at 30 knots or a little above.Only Visby class have 35 knot speed but that design is highly inadequate to hold the firepower asked by Navy.Saar 72 also maxes out at 30kn.If Navy really wants that speed and firepower, the ship should have COGAG or CODAG propulsion. But Navy prefers diesel engines for littoral ships.

Exactly, which is why I don't think you will be seeing that klind of corvette.

Saar 72 does not max out at 30kn. IAI states " speed of above 30kn with an extended endurance". The hull is clearly based on previous FACs.

Saar 4.5
Displacement:
  • 498 tonnes (full load - Aliya subclass)
  • 488 tonnes (full load - Hetz subclass)
Length: 61.7 m (202.43 ft)
Beam: 7.62 m (25.00 ft)
Draft: 2.8 m (9.19 ft)

Recorded top speeds for Saar 4.5s
  • 33 knots (61 km/h) (top speed - Aliya)
  • 34 knots (63 km/h) (top speed - Hetz)
Saar 72
Displacement: 800 tonnes
Length: 72 m (236.22 ft)
Beam: 10.25 m (33.63 ft)
Draft: less than 3 m (9.84 ft)
Speed:
  • cruise: 18kn
  • sustained: 28kn
  • maximum: above 30kn
These are all diesel ships....

No, you should be accurate. Saar 6 is a GERMAN designed ship. Just like the SAAR 5 is an Litton Ingals (USA) product.

WHAT LIMITED RANGE OF SAAR5 / SAAR6?
  • RANGE AT WHAT SPEED?
  • LIMITED COMPARED TO WHAT?

Saar 3 Range: 2,500 nmi (4,600 km) at 15 kn
Saar 4 Range: 4,000 nmi (7,400 km; 4,600 mi) at 17.5 kn (32.4 km/h)
Saar 4.5 Range:
  • 4,800 nmi (8,900 km) at 19 knots
  • 2,200 nmi (4,100 km) at 30 knots
Saar 5 Range: 3,500 nmi (6,500 km), this according to wiki
Naval technology: The propulsion system provides a maximum speed of 33kt. The cruise speed on the diesel engines is 20kt and the endurance is 4,000 nautical miles.

Saar 6 Range: 4,000 nmi (7,400 km) at 15 kn
Saar 72 Range: 3,000 nmi (5,500 kilometres)

By comparison
Visby: Range: 2,500 nmi (4,600 km) at 15 kn
Comandanti class 3500 nmi at 14 kn
Ada class Range: 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km) @ 15 kn
Minerva class Range: 3,500 nmi (6,500 km; 4,000 mi) at 18 kn
Kamorta class Range: 3,500 nmi (6,500 km; 4,000 mi) at 18 kn
Khukri/Kora class: Range: 4,000 nmi (7,400 km; 4,600 mi) @ 16 kn
Singapore Victory class Range: 4,000 nmi (7,400 km) at 18 kn
