Defence Ministry Proposes QR-SAMs for the Army and Dornier Aircraft for IAF

This thread is about QRSAMs which are for very short range and Akash is Medium range SAMs. Don't go by media its useless as usual.

We are also having Long Range SAMs it doesn't mean QRSAMs + Medium range Akash are useless.

They are for different uses. We will have Multi layered missile protection. :smokin:

Thanks for making it clear! I thought so too but then got confused, these buggers cant even do a small research before vomiting... India lacks serious Defence journalism! :hitwall:

Becoz that report is written by a dump reporter...:yahoo:
Exactly! Dumbest I must say...

From global security , S-300PMU SA-10 GRUMBLE

Since 1995 India had been negotiating with Russia regarding purchase of the S-300, in response to Pakistan's deployment of M-11 missiles from China. In 1995 Russian Defense Deputy Minister Kokoshin offered to sell S-300 missiles during his trip to India. Following this offer Indian officials started negotiations with the Russian manufacturers, and in August 1995 the Indian Defense Secretary Nambiar went to Russia to observe tests of the missiles near Moscow. The $1 billion purchase is said to include six S-300 systems, with each combat system consisting of 48 missiles. Reportedly in June 1996 27 S-300 missiles were delivered to India.

Defence acquisition worth Rs 20,000 crore cleared

NEW DELHI: The defence ministry today cleared several acquisition projects of the armed forces worth over Rs 20,000 crore including regiments of Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missiles (QRSAMs) for the Army.

At a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), IAF's proposals worth over Rs 8500 crore for procuring 14 Dornier aircraft and setting up a communication network were also cleared, sources said here.

They said that after the success of the pilot project of the Air Force Network (AFNET), it will be implemented as a nation-wide network at the cost of Rs 7000 crore.

Proposals of the Navy and the Coast Guard to procure 30 mm guns for their warships were also approved in the meeting presided by Defence Minister A K Antony, they said.

The DAC approved procurement of regiments QRSAMs for the Army Air Defence, of which three will be inducted during the ongoing 12th Defence Plan.

Approval for these missiles comes against the backdrop of former Army Chief General V K Singh's letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which he had highlighted that 97 per cent of the equipment with the AAD was obsolete.

The Army will now issue a global tender for the new missiles which will replace the Russian-origin Kvadrat missiles.
