Can you show me one instance of where RBU 600 has stopped a torpedo ? or tests that have been successful against modern wire guided Torpedoes ?
Of course not and I am calling into question the need for them to continue to occupy deck space on IN warships.

Indian Navy uses Active guided charges which is effective against Sub's which are lucking very near the ship.

....The HAPP (Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project), Tiruchi, has developed an indigenised version of the Russian Anti-Submarine Rocket Guided Bomb 60 (RGB 60), for catering to the needs of Indian Navy.

The 110 kg RGB 60 rocket developed through in-house Research and Development process within a duration of one year, has been designed to deliver a war head mass of 25 kg to a range of 5.8 km within ten seconds.


The specs are better than Russian bombs.

@Penguin do you still think that the IN needs the RBU-600s to provide the "hard kill" option for incoming torpedoes? I'm pretty sure those systems will remain on the majority of frontline IN warships for the foreseeable future (even though some will parrot their use for ASuW also which has always been very dubious to me) but they are perhaps surplus to requirements and an eyesore to boot.

Anyway, the IN is taking ASW very seriously, they are investing in a multitude of complimentary ASW systems (HUMSA NG, ACTAS, P-8I, S-70B- both armed with the Mk 54- P-28 Kaveri ASW corvettes). All top-notch hardware and simply unparalleled in the region.

RBU 6000 provides close in hardkill against subs in confined, shallow waters, where the heavy weight ASW torps are at a disadvantages (and helicopters with lightweight torps are a longer range asset). That it can also serve as "Anti-torpedo CIWS" is bonus. In my book: the more defensive layers, the better.

Is it fairly easy to detect incoming torpedoes?

Will the maareech system be installed in all new ships in IN?, which are the ships suitable for the system?

Kinematic and acoustic-signature torpedo characteristics can be detected by hull mounted sonar. Specialized torpedo-detection algorithms are required to pick up torpedoes from sonar data. A weapons data base is required.
