Defence institutions (Army & ISI) oppose genetically modified seeds for food crops

There needs to be open discussion and awareness about this! Haram tooi gave monsanto the go ahead to come into Pakistan.

Why doesn't Pakistan have its own seeds? why doesn't the gov have a department for seeds! cant rely on the gov maybe askari seeds will have to be formed.

Exactly. Like most other things, govt efforts are pathetically out-dated.

India is producing GM crops so cross pollination will happen regardless. GM crops are already in the food chain. Look at how much soybean Pakistan imports together with other products. Soybean is used in animal/poultry feed intensively hence the chicken we eat is eating feed made of GM crops (which were also sprayed on with herbicides/pesticides - furthering the chance of chemical residues to be present in the grain/feed).

Another example could be Starch which is also used in everyday food (again look at how much is produced in Pakistan and imported). ​

I would be more worried about the herbicides and pesticides used then the GM crops. Unless the whole food chain is developed from ground up it is impossible to get away from GM crops (they will be present in one way or another).
