Police in occupied Kashmir have arrested a long-serving counterinsurgency officer for allegedly having ties with Kashmiri groups fighting against Indian rule, officials said on Sunday.

"Police intercepted a car in southern Kashmir on Saturday night and arrested Deputy Superintendent Davinder Singh along with two [Kashmiri fighters] and their civilian aide," Inspector General Vijay Kumar told reporters in Srinagar.

The case has rattled the Indian security apparatus in the region, where Kashmiris have been fighting for decades, demanding independence or a merger with Pakistan.

Kumar called the arrests a big operation and claimed that one of the arrested Kashmiris was a top commander of the group Hizbul Mujahideen, who had reportedly deserted police ranks in 2017 with four weapons.

He alleged that the commander, Naveed Baba, was second in command in Hizbul Mujahideen.

"Some weapons and ammunition were recovered from the arrested men," Kumar said.

"The issue is very sensitive and all intelligence agencies and police are jointly interrogating the officer," he said. "Given the circumstances, this is a heinous crime."

Singh has long served in the Indian police's Special Operations Group, a dreaded counterinsurgency unit that has been widely accused by Kashmiris and human rights groups of some of the worst violations reported during the last three decades of conflict; from summary executions, torture and rape to holding suspects as well as civilians for ransom.

Singh was currently working at the anti-hijacking unit at Srinagar's airport, one of the most fortified and heavily guarded airports.

Last week, he was among the officers who received New Delhi-based foreign envoys of 15 countries who came to visit the region for the first time after India unilaterally stripped occupied Kashmir's semi-autonomous status and imposed a communications and security lockdown in August. The European Union had refused to take part in the diplomatic visit because they would not be allowed to meet detained local politicians, reports said.

Singh was once injured in an operation and was later given the Indian president's gallantry award.

This is not the first time Indian law enforcement officers have been implicated in aiding the freedom movement in Kashmir, one of the most militarised zones in the world.

In 2012, Indian police arrested two intelligence officials and two low-ranking police officers for ties with Kashmiri fighters in the region.

In 2006, three Indian soldiers and two police officers were detained for alleged links with a Kashmiri group. The police force removed the two officers from service, without revealing if they were charged with any crime, while the army has remained quiet about the status and fate of the detained soldiers.

This DSP was also named in the letter released by Afzal gurus Lawyer after his hanging. He clearly stated that Singh tortured him during his detention and told him to take a person named Muhammad to Delhi and get him a house rented. Afzal claimed he had no choice but to comply with Davinders orders, took Muhammad to Delhi and got a house rented for him, he also helped him purchase a car. Afzal witnessed Muhammads regular communication with Davinder before the attacks on Indian Parliament.

So this particular DSP closely worked with Indian Intelligence services and was currently posted at Srinagar Airport, he had been involved in several operations. The two terrorists arrested with him were going to Delhi, was there another false flag operation in the making? To blame it on Kahsmiris and then on Pakistan to suppress protests against CAA and use it to gain votes in upcoming Delhi elections? IF so are there elements within in Indian intelligence and establishment that have finally decided to take a stand against BJP and RSS plans, although highly unlikely but What exactly is going on in India is of particular importance. I hope our intelligence agencies are monitoring this situation very closely.

Indian establishment uses terrorism as a tool of its foreign policy, we all know that. The question arises why this DSP was arrested in the midst of an operation most likely designed to instigate another Pulwama like situation.

Intelligence operations are always clouded and never revealed to other insitutitions, except the high leadership.

It is obvious from this man's description that he was a very devoted Indian officer, is also a non Muslim, posted in Kashmir's most important city airbase, and had connections with Intelligence.

Quite plausible that this was a false flag attempt. Why else would such an officer transport them?

Wait few days. See how those police officers who apprehended won't be rewarded even a dime, if anything, they will dissapear from the mainstream in a few days.

Nothing would come of it and there wont be a word getting out. As I stated earlier this man was named by Guru, but nothing happened to him. However the question is why Pakistani media is sleeping at this story? This is a golden opportunity for us to show the world what India is upto, instead our media as always scratching its bum and focusing on non-sense. ISPR should take full benefit of this opportunity to expose Indian false flags that always blame Pakistan. But I am not seeing any movement towards that.

I was listening to the presser by the Kashmir Police heads, which stated that they had information that some militants are travelling towards Delhi via National Expressway. He stated upon receiving this information they immediately sprung up road blocks at a particular location. Again the question arises, from the account of police they received information about the movement at a short notice. The only possibility it seems is that this information was leaked from within by someone as the the militants were being transported.

Nope, it looks more like a false flag that went bust because of the action of police and that is not the interesting part. What is interesting is who informed the police about movements of militants.
