Decision to arrest tax evaders, list of 1.5 crore people prepared

As I said earlier no-one in the world wants to pay taxes it is the governments who make them to pay taxes.

No governemnt can arrest or force political class to pay taxes. If you want to end this culture of elite than you have to get if this feudal sham of democracy.

To end this culture the right step will be to abolish this constituency system and go for direct presidential system. Take the power away from them to influence and blackmail governemnts.

This is one of the areas where PTI's performance has been even worse than previous Governments. Forget small/medium traders, what exactly is stopping them from going after big name shopping stores, malls, restaurants, pharmacies etc? Just in Pindi/Isb you have Savour foods, Tehzeeb, D Watson, Shaheen, Punjab/Madina Cash & Carry etc. These shops are openly declining to link their systems with FBR's POS. Go ahead and put lock these places and put their owners behind bars.

Banana republic mode m chal rahi hai tax collection & enforcement. Salaried class gets their taxes deducted at source--the total of which amounts perhaps less than what a single of these chains is liable to pay. And I am just talking about Pindi/Isb--the smallest of metro areas in Pakistan. Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar are way way higher than this.

KPK governemnt is doing a great job in this regard, they even have a list of restaurants integrated with POS system.

Overall we had a good success with POS system.

The problem faced on ground is it is either all or none. No retailer or restaurant or any form of business will come in willingly unless all their competitors are in the system, everyone wants to be the last one.

Good post.

Pakistani officials are only good for superficial posturing without addressing issues in substantive manner.

Unless they go after known evaders, these sorts of empty threats will be much ado about nothing.

Our tax system is fundamentally flawed. In the developed world, the poor pay less, and the rich more. In Pakistan, the rich pay nothing, the poor through his nose.

Correct. And that is because the rich finance and enable the power of the elected, the military, the judiciary, the bureaucracy, and everyone else in the mix. Not the vote of the poor.

Serves the poor right. They are meant to be the only actual check on the powerful. Instead they protect and defend their overlords for no apparent reason at all. PTI, PMLN, PPP, Military, all of them. It's the weirdest case of Stockholm Syndrome.

Hence why no one is interested in providing good quality education to the masses.

True but the matter is simpler than that, at least IMO. All one needs is common sense, maybe even just the evolutionary instinct of self-preservation. The illiterates in the West don't let it happen but the educated in Pakistan do.

We had Presidential form of government or an all powerful president for 2/3 years since independence and we could not improve our tax system, PMLN doubled tax collection in its five years term with little hue and cry.

KP introduced this system in January this year and Punjab is using this system since 2015, not only on restaurants but also in fashion outlets and gyms.

PRA introduced a prize scheme for the success of this system

Last year Punjab government collected around 4 billion through this system from restaurants only. This government has discontinue tax collection from fashion brands as they supported tabdeeli.
