Hindu terrorists convicted for bomb blasts in Thane, Mumbai: Court sentences Sanatan Sanstha members to 10 years' jail term

A sessions court in Mumbai on Monday held two right-wing militants guilty for the bomb blast at a theatre in Thane that had occurred in 2008.

The court convicted Ramesh Gadkari and Vikram Bhave for planting bombs and causing blasts at Thane, Panvel and Vashi in Maharashtra.

Four other members of the same right-wing group who were charged with the same crime were however let off for lack of sufficient evidence. Those acquitted included Mangesh Nikkam, Santosh Angre, Hemant and Hari Divekar.

Though activists associated with Hindutva groups have been charged for terror strikes in Ajmer Dargah, Mecca Masjid blast at Hyderabad, Samjhauta Express and Modasa blast, this is one of the first such cases in which the court has convicted those accused of bomb blasts.

Justice NV Nhavkar will announce the quantum of sentence on Wednesday. Seven persons were injured when bomb exploded on June 4, 2008 in Gadkari Rangayatan theatre at Thane which falls in Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation area.

Another bomb explosion had occurred at a theatre in Vashi in Navi Mumbai on May 31 the same year. A bomb was also planted in Panvel in Raigad. The investigators had zeroed in on the role of right-wing Hindu extremists' group Sanatan Sanstha.

The bomb blast at Panvel cinema hall was to protest the screening of the Bollywood movie Jodhaa Akbar which was deemed as denigrating the Rajputs and Hindu culture. Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai had played lead roles in the film.

Similarly, plays were targeted. The fanatic members had objected to certain plays depicting Hindu gods, which they considered objectionable. The case has serious implications as it was initially considered a terrorist strike.

It also highlights that right-wing groups have been involved in terrorism in the country. Later reports suggest that the two 'terrorists' viz. Ramesh Gadkari and Vikram Bhave have been sentenced to ten years or rigorous imprisonment each.

Well if someone from a country having GDP ranking of 47 accuses another country having the same of 11th by IMF/WB that its people are converting to terrorist due to poverty and suppression, then am really confused:taz:

What is this. Take your time in digesting what an Indian has written in an Indian paper

are you too thick to realize that Op-Eds in newspapers don't constitute proof....shall I inundate with Op-Eds that proclaim Pakistan as the global factory of terror, that is actually widely accepted as the truth ?

The reason you do not convict them is because they are embedded in Indian society and you are clearly in denial mate
Do you have any material to prove your claim that our Judicial system is biased towards the Majority?

Back to topic this saffron terrorism must be exposed and our Indian friends must take off their blinkers and hatred of Pakistan and Islam and see what is happening in their midst
First present the proof dude, a video is all you can come up with? Post news wherein the Saffron brigade guys have been convicted, then prove that they are tried and in how many cases are they tried, do you have data if not why are you ranting?

You must be freakin kidding me SK. How many terrorist attacks have taken place against muslim targets in India??? How many of those cases have been cracked and people convicted or under process and you will have your answer.

And all this WE have done, OUR police and intelligence, no FOREIGN pressure and PROOFS and AID. Thats because this is our problem and we have to solve it, our state knows this.

Compare that to the way pakistan after ''banning'' LET allowed the same people to just change the nameplate to JUD and run the same HQ in muridke and now that they have ''banned'' JUD under international pressure and UN mandate they are still openly holding rallies and raising fund by printing ads in mainstream newspapers and your govt looks the other way.

You have been brough up in the UK, tell me SK, is this what you understand of ''banning'' a terror organisation???

You have got to be practically delusional to compare, in quantity, in quality, in state response, in state involvement and in the cross border nature of it.

BTW depending on various surveys, even after mumbai attacks 27 to 42% pakistanis consider LET the good guys. I wont be surprised if pakistanis posting here are regular donors of LET and are only offering an apology.

Yaar look at what the thread is about and look at how you are trying so hard to derail it. Its remarkable how many Indians are like infatuated about issues in our nation yet when the issue is raised in their own nation they get ants in their pants and point the finger at others. Lets face facts it exists it bad and lets hope India government gets on top of it - now be a good boy and stick to the topic dude....

The reason why Saffron terrorism is not close to being a problem as big as Pakistani terrorism is that

1. Its Pakistani terrorism sponsored in the name of Islam and consequently the name Islamic terrorism and Pakistani sponsored terrorism are used interchangeably by citizens of many countries.

2. Unlike Pakistani state sponsorship of Non state actors - which has been accepted by numerous Pakistani officials from ex military officers to the erstwhile President of Pakistan, India does no such thing as we are a status quo power.

3. Unlike Pakistani society - which is FAR more radicalized than Indian society, people here generally do not celebrate martyrdom in the name of religion because of the same reason.

4. Unlike Pakistani need of using non state actors against India to offset Indian conventional superiority, India does not have any such issues and need to use such non state actors.

5. Unlike Pakistani terrorists which are celebrated in Pakistan, in India, they are caught and put on trial - like in the Samjhauta blasts case and the rest of the population feels sad and ashamed because of them.

Note: There is no Difa e India council asking for a religious war against Pakistan. This should be answer enough for you.

Well I think that we can not ignore the saffron terror in Kashmir aka as the Indian army

Then it should still be a case of "Secular terror" for you as the Indian army is secular..!
;)

Congress has to get some votes...and it needs some reason to bash Hindus...So what can be the best reason that creating a term called as " Saffron terror".....After all it is the legacy of Congress to create such kind of words...Otherwise...there is nothing called Saffron Terror....If Saffron Terror kills some anti national and Jihadist...then of course....I think ...guess me....what i would like to say....

I am a Proud Hindu Nationalist a Ex-RSS Swayamsevak ... My Ideology is Hindutva ... i am a Agnostic Hindu like Most of Hindu Nationalist ...

I may be terrorist for the entire World who Doesnt understand the Meaning of Hindu Nationalism ... So First Understand the Meaning of term Hindu Nationalism then Come & Debate ...

You must be freakin kidding me SK. How many terrorist attacks have taken place against muslim targets in India??? How many of those cases have been cracked and people convicted or under process and you will have your answer.

fateh - follow the thread. Look at the title and look at the responses given by Indians on this thread. It incredible that you guys live on PDF and spontaneously combustion takes place about anything to do with our nation and when an Indian chap wants to discuss saffron terror - you and your countrymen get marcha in your pants? Why cant you simply stick to the subject matter? Do you feel by going off topic it dilutes the issue? The rest of your post is an example of "deflecting from the thread".
I was asked to give a proof of a conviction - so i duly oblige and then you guys move onto a "different angle".
Give it a rest guys - it exists and i hope steps are taken to remove it from society....

(btw - cant believe a thread of this nature has led to the banning of Karan and Yeti -stick to topic!!)

As the anchor pointed out, how long can the Indians remain in denial.
The fact this menace is being discussed on airwaves, points to it's existence and severity.
The sooner Indians realise that by pointing fingers at others, they cannot hide their own underbelly.
We hear a lot of talk on 26/11 but incidents like the Samjohta Express bombing are seldom discussed.

Let us try to understand the "saffron terror " and its reaches in India
Mecca Masjid bombing -16 death
Malegaon blasts - 37 death
Samjhauta Express bombing - 68 death
Ajmer Dargah Blast - 2 death

fateh - follow the thread.

(btw - cant believe a thread of this nature has led to the banning of Karan and Yeti -stick to topic!!)
there are on Record 3 to 4 attacks which have been accused to be the work of Hindu terrorists... There are always fringe elements present anywhere, it is not a major problem inside India and will not be because the ballast required to make a hardcore terrorist organization is missing...

So again I'm asking you, please provide the cases, the accused and the convicts from which we can study how big a problem it is when you try to represent a Hindu religion based terrorists as a festering problem. Otherwise you should know better when to close your trap.
