Death Penalty to Fishermen by Lanka has angered Tamilnadu

Yes , Tiger freedom fighters bravely fought alone against the 9 countries coalition led by India , dispute if you can ..

From the 1980s?

the same argument can be applied for Tamilnadu's rights , as the agreement is arbitrary, but this clause should shut your big trap

The vessels of Srilanka and India will enjoy in each other's waters such rights as they have traditionally enjoyed therein".

But still bound to the legal code of the respective country.

India, Lanka , Tamilnadu belong to the same shit but come in different shapes, sizes , colors and smell, I don't belong these shit hole countries :hitwall:

We all belong to the same shit despite the country we live in........ :P Tiger can never hide his strips.

to me these are 3rd world shit holes , to you they smell and look lovely due to historic ties , anyway its always good for you to get a 3rd party view and feedback and stop living in your dream shit hole, time to wake up and smell your shit lol

Our shit smells sweeter.

These people need to stop acting like idiots and calm the Fark down!!.. This is a case of a judicial procedure of a sovereign country.. Just because they are Tamils does not make them innocent, If the Lankans want collective punishment for all Tamil Nadu people they can hang hundreds of them arrested for illegal poaching and smuggling marijuana every month.. But they release them without much hassle.. These 5 were caught smuggling Heroin a very serious crime and was sentenced along with 3 Sri Lankans, Now why does Indian media fail to mention that ? What are their motives ?

Destroying public property in India does not make another sovereign nation to interfere in it's judiciary.. Tamils in TN need to realize that they have no influence on Sri Lanka just because they're numerically larger.. This delusional superiority complex is the main hurdle for stronger Indo/Lanka relations

Protest over Lanka Sentence Swells in State, 318 Arrested -The New Indian Express

CHENNAI/TIRUPUR/THANJAVUR/KUMBAKONAM/SALEM/NAGERCOIL: Several persons were arrested across the State as protests against a Sri Lankan court verdict awarding death sentence to five fishermen reached a pitch on Friday. Agitators gave vent to their anger by shouting anti-Lanka slogans and targeting the neighbouring country’s president Mahinda Rajapaksa by burning his effigies.

In Chennai, over 300 people belonging to several organisations were arrested for holding protests demanding release of the five Indian fishermen. The protestors assembled in front of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner’s office in Nungambakkam and staged a protest. Several leaders at the protest venue alleged that the move was a deliberate ploy of the Sri Lankan Government to target the Tamil-speaking minority. The judiciary in Sri Lanka was controlled by the government and the death penalty was a move to target people from Tamil Nadu for raising human rights violations in the island nation, they claimed.

Meanwhile, in Tirupur, 18 persons were arrested when they tried to burn Rajapaksa’s effigy near the railway station. The protest was led by Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi to condemn the verdict and the Sri Lankan government.

Expressing solidarity with the fishing community, lawyers across Thanjavur district boycotted courts. As part of the protests, the advocates staged protests in front of court campuses. Around 680 lawyers boycotted the court. Similar protests were reported from Kumbakonam, with 448 lawyers boycotting work.

Meanwhile, police in Salem foiled the attempt by cadre of Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi to burn Rajapaksa’s effigy. Sources said while a group of cadre was staging a protest near the Head Post Office here, another section brought an effigy of Rajapaksa and tried to set it on fire. However, police personnel on duty foiled their bid. The cadre vacated the spot after raising slogans against Lanka and Rajapaksa.

Five Tamil Nadu fishermen were among the seven sentenced to death by a Lankan court in connection with a narcotics case. The verdict sparked spontaneous protests across the State, with support pouring in for the family members of the condemned. Similar protest was organised by the Tamilar Valvurimai cadre in Nagercoil, where they burnt the effigies of Rajapaksa and staged a protest against the verdict.

Drug smuggling in Palk Bay: Alluring danger - The Times of India

Susai Vaz, a country boat fisher man in Pamban, says smugglers are constantly on the prowl along the coast looking for prospective fishermen to ferry gold or narcotics across the water. "But they know that I am not the one they want," says Vaz.

But not all have the determination of Vaz who hails from a traditional fishing community of Rameswaram.Fishermen here acknowledge that smuggling of gold, silver and drugs - and kerosene during the civil war - has been an under-the-radar but a definite presence along the coast of this border district of Ramanathapuram that at some places is only a few hours boat ride from Sri Lanka. In this arid, underdeveloped region, many who are not traditional fishermen get into fishing because they have no other option and some get tempted by smuggling's promise of easy lucre.G Arul, president of country boat fishermen in Pamban, says that fishers addicted to alcohol are particularly susceptible.

Fishermen, however, are only a small cog in a vast network and get paid just the ferrying charges. The agents are the masters on the field though the big fish is usually elsewhere.

The agents have their ears close to the ground and know who is in trouble or is desperate for fast cash, says U Arulanandam of Alliance for Release of Innocent Fishermen. "They will closely follow the fisherman and then make an offer," he said.

The smuggled items are exchanged at the International Maritime Boundary Line of India and Sri Lanka. The fishermen may just be a cog in the wheel but are absolutely crucial to the operation. "It is very difficult to nab them once they are in the waters and most of our seizures occur only on land. Security agencies are no match for fishermen who know the sea very well," says a marine police official.

Meanwhile, the families of the five fishermen sentenced to death by a Sri Lankan court continue to suffer. With their sole bread winners locked up, the families survive on the daily allowance of `250 given by state government."Our men are innocent and justice will prevail. They will return soon," says Skenita, wife of Prasad, one of the five fishermen.

Community leaders too assert that these fishermen are innocent. They point out that those sentenced were on a mechanized boat that is regulated and monitored whereas smugglers use country boats that are rarely monitored and often overlooked by the Lankan Navy intent on punishing trespassers. "In the entire history of this coast, we have not supported any fisherman held on smuggling charges. Many fishers were held earlier for smuggling but none of our associations supported them. But we all know that these five are innocent," says B Jesuraja, district secretary of Tamil Nadu Mechanized Boat Fishermen Association.

The systemic problem is that these fishers cross the border to fish and a few fall for the easy money offered by smugglers, say activists. "The government should take efforts to solve the basic issue of cross-border fishing and provide fishers here with alternatives," says Vareethiah Constantine, a researcher and activist here.

"We want the government to eradicate the network of smuggling from this coast once and for all because innocent fishermen are caught in this dangerous trade of smuggling narcotics or valuables to Sri Lanka," said Arul.

India and Sri Lanka are lovely countries with long historical ties.

It is Tamil Nadu that is a shit hole. A state driven by hatred and backwardness and seemingly populated by a large proportion of thieves who like to steal other people's resources and then claim victim when they are brought to justice.

Go and learn Hindi, respect the Kannadigas and Malayalis and stop beating your Tamil drum so loudly. Integrate with the rest of India and thank the North Indians for protecting your state.
Its high time Tamils changed their attitudes. They have some of the great intellectual people who are not only the pride of TN but whole of india but majority of Tamils made themselves a laughing stock.Worship of film stars, their exaggerated body language, the sound of their language made them cheap in front of others.Even their language hasn't evolved like other languages. They have only one sound for both ka and ga,that and dha,pa and ba,ta and da,cha and ja .They pronounce srilanka as siri langa ,jyothi as jodhi for this rrason. They can't pronounce sha and ha.they call rahman as raguman for this reason.Better TN adopt as many Sanskrit words as possible including alphabets with their correct sounds.

if convicted they deserve it

They were convicted.. But most probably there wont be any executions.. SL have not executed anybody since the 70's.. GOI is making an appeal.. But i think the verdict will be upheld.. There is damning evidence

Most possible is that owing to the good will of both govt's they would be transferred to India to spend the rest of the sentence

If they were convicted(Which I think they were) the law of the land needs to be upheld..Not sure I agree on the death sentence part though. As for the bolded part, I hope so too.
