A recent articleabout whether IITians need subsidy for their education has triggered anintense debateon how much IITians have actually helped the nation.

After Independence, it was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who spearheaded the establishment of the Indian Institutes of Technology to provide trained technical personnel of international calibre to the nation. These men and women, it was hoped, would grow to become leaders in technology for newly independent India.

India hoped that the IIT system would, over time, be instrumental in creating scientists and technologists who would engage in research, design and development to help make the nation towards self-reliance in her technological needs.

Now, let us see how IITians have served this purpose of making the nation self-reliant in some of the critical technologies.



So next time, before giving an analysis of how much value IITians have created for the Indian economy, one should also analyse on how much value is lost because IITians haven't met their mandate of making the country self-reliant in technology.

Here are some points I'd like to reiterate:



I am not saying that all this work should have to be done only by the IITians. But I would have been more proud if any IITian claims that to have started a high-tech industry in aeronautics or telecommunication-equipment manufacturing.

Why most of deserving people run out of India or any third world country for that matter. The cause is lack of opportunities. I said most of them, not all. Here we promote who had born in lower Caste, the best boot licker, the best briber and so on. Here in India, a person getting higher rank in exam doesn't get opportunities, his Caste does.

yeah....like India was giving them a great environment to make a contribution. I think it's about right they left the country. We should fix our country first instead of blaming them.

Hehehe.....I think you all have knowledge about iit/iitian which media shows you only...
i am doing b.tech from civil eng at iitg...i am telling you about facts & some ugly truths about iit/iitian:-
1.IQ :- most of you would think that iitian has high iq....but as far as i have seen very less 25-35% have higher iq,you people have higher iq than most of the iitian(70%)
2.Hard working :- Most of iitian(60-80%) are lazy student including me
3.Selfishness :- Almost all are selfish
4.Knowledge outside academics :- very less 20-30% are having satisfactionable knowledge outside academics
5.Interest :-some have interest in gaming,tv show like got...,girl,cultural activities,sports,technical activity like robotics,study...very less(3-4%) have interest in defence&technolodgy,aeronautics.....
6.Placement :- In current years students of cse,m&c,electronic,electrical,design has high demand from it,finance,management,consultancy,technology,startup,online retail company...department,placement%:cse,m&c,design-100
ece,eee-(80-90),chemical-60,biotech-(50-60)mech-50,civil-40....only 20-30% student goes foreign for job or ms who are most talented...
Yes they got subsidy from government..almost 40% got mcm scholarship(no semester fee)....But there are many hardworking student/faculty also who had/are estabilished IIT brand
Today i have last examof present sem and lot to study require for that,,,still busy in this forum
