Deadline pressure on IAF to order more C-17s

+ and only the other day Mr Safriz on the "suggestion and discussion" section requested more technical and defence threads! What's the point? He is clearly learning NOTHING! I can't count the number of threads on Indian orders for foreign equipment or the nearly weekly reports on such and yet he clearly has missed or ignored ALL of them!!

For reference:

http://www.defence.pk/forums/sugges...hortage-defense-tech-discussions-threads.html

+ I like how so many like to bash India over the MMRCA, I am looking forward to the day (this FY) when it is signed and these aholes STFU!!

Instead of going ape...
Its better to point out the COMPLETED defence orders which india has paid for and procured from USA/Europe..
Not opened tender/looking into/interested in orders...which never materialize.

I refer you back to my earlier post #14, such deals include-

6 C-130Js (signed,sealed,delierved!!)
6 P-8I (signed, paid for under construction first unit will be delivered next year,2013)
10 C-17 (signed, paid for under construction first unit will be delivered next year,2013)

NOTE- all of these deals have follow-ons that India is almost 100% likely to take up soon.

Now it depends how far you wanna go back because if we go back further the deal would include-

SU-30MKI
IL-78MKI
A-50EI PHALCON AWACS
MIG-29K
etc, etc the list literally goes on and on.

I really don't know what you are getting at. Are you trying to make out India buys NOTHING from abroad? I have seen you criticise India for being the world's biggest arms importer but now you are saying India buys 0 from abroad??

FYI this FY the following deals are also to be signed-

AH-64D BLK.III
CH-47F
AS550 LUH
A330 MRTT

and as mentioned the follow-ons for said projects.

etc

. . .
I was on Bout deals with western Arms sellers..Not Russian.
From west India hasn't brought anything...But "Shows interest" in almost everything...same as window shopping.

Here is a list of India's window shopping defence deals.

With that..I am out of this thread. :cheesy:

IMO,we should consider buying the production line of c 17s and for sure, c 130js.

Not only would US not be willing to sell IMHO because of hang ups about TOT but why? India doesn't need 100s of C-17s only, at most, 30 and Boeing can deliver these easily and timely no need to complicate things. Similar scernio with C-130js.

Jesus H Christ are you reading any of my effing posts??!!! How do you account for the Hercs, Globemasters and P-8Is then? FFS- talk about hearing what you want to hear!!

And btw you have to "show ant interest" before you buy! It can't be said India never buys a thing from abroad on one hand and then attack India (which you have done in the past) for being the #1 arms importer in the world!! Trying to weasel your way out of the debate because you got your facts wrong or simply ignored them huh? What a fool, an utter fool!!

I'd say, if anything, Pakistan is more guilty of "showing interest" and never buying than India. Pakistan has "shown an interest" in almost every weapons system out there from EFT to Rafale to F-15 to Abrams to..... and rarely have these flights of fancy come to fruition. India puts its money where its mouth is in many cases if the product it "shows interest " in meets India's exact needs and is reasonable wrt cost. Mark my words, in the coming years, if the products India has "shown interest" in meet this criteria India WILL buy them- it has $100BN+ to blow in the next 7 years after all!!

Anyway, I'm outta here, waaaay past my bed time!!!

"never materialize" my a$$ those days have gone.

I agree with your frustration. Having said that, I think 126 fighters with a land mass India has, is not enough. Agreed, they will buy more, but its been a long drawn process and the delay adds to the length of time before they will be actually deployed and combat ready.

Please help me understand, your country has evaluated F-15, Euro fighter Typhoon , Gripen , Rafale fighter aircraft and so on…let me know how many of them your country bought… And end of the day you went for CHINA MAAL…. This is called Khane ko Khuddee Nahin aur Hagne ko Pulaw.

Please, IAF has till Q3 2013 to decide??!! Good sales technique by Boeing but are you really telling me that any "winding-down" process implemented after this deadline is irreversible? If Boeing got a 10 unit order from IAF in Q1 2014 are you telling me they would decline and continue closing down??!! NOT ON YOUR LIFE! The ball is in the IAF's court and they have the power. Even still I woudl expect an follow on order by IAF not too long after first deliveries are made.

can't say for sure, same was the case when IAF first sought for MMRCA, they were going for mirage 2000s in around 2003/04, but there production line got shut (IAF process of induction was very lengthy), Dassault fielded Rafale instead. I think just keeping the production lines open for an anticipated contract will be a financial burden for Boeing.

I dont want this to be India-Pakistan shouting match. But why would Pakistan not consider these very capable planes? Costs and Maintenance? Or just different needs?

If u watch closely the recent defence deals of US vis-a-vis Pakistan, u will be clear that US does not sell any weaponry to Pakistan that can change the conventional superiority that India enjoys in the region, C-17s are just an example. I read somewhere that if Pakistan would like to acquire P-8's (advanced version of P-3C's), US will not likely clear the deal though India was the first export customer of the planes. Correct me if i m wrong, but the best system that US has selled to Pak are F-16s (this also were first flown as early as 1970s).

Ok ok ok. Rest in peace with your whatever plane you are buying.

delays are there for everyone, including PAF for the FC-20 (god knows when it will actually fly)

220 LCA Tejas
200 Rafale
322 Su-30MKI (272 if not selected in SFC's tender)
250 PAK-FA/FGFA

bombers -

140 Jaguar
50 ??? (to be selected by SFC)

Im keeping aside yet non-existent aircraft like the AMCA & the bomber version of PAK-FA in development
for now...

And yeah there'll be INAF with

85 NLCA
90 MiG-29K
56 Rafale-M
45 stealth fighters (to be decided)

PS - I know the numbers of NLCA & MiG-29K will confuse you so here goes -

45 more MiG-29Ks for Indian Navy | defence.pk

about the numbers of 85 NLCA and 90 MiG-29K, a former Indian Navy sea harrier pilot "VSTOL Jockey" from
IDF has confirmed that these numbers will be ordered in the IDF thread about the same news (plz verify
if needed).
