This thread is for discussion on recent developments regarding changes in Internet & Data protection policies.

As everyone knows there were news regarding a new policy on SM and Data Protection. objective was to make social media giants comply to the policies of Govt. of Pakistan.

One thing to note is that there was no definitive summary or anything, someone break the news and it became a hot topic of discussion.

International media picked it up. The SM giants also pushed back. Alice Wells also criticzed the move.

Input by members would be appreciated.

Data protection is practically non existent in Pakistan but the vibes i got from this regulation enactment is that the govt want to take us back to the good old pre 1999 and it's quite evident from the gradual hoo haaa made every now and then. They are more focused on control than catering to the need of looking after the individual privacy.

its not just for social media. every damn company that collects customer data. check out how stringent it is in the UK
