“Dangerous” book destroyed in US

Just change the name Obama with Zardari and you will see we all have been writing this here on forum and in public and in papers.

None has been persecuted for calling Zardari all these names. So i dont see anything boasting about at your end.

If that is freedom of speech than hurra we can be champions as much as you are.

Try doing the same in nawabshah.. and ill see how far you go

I do however agree that the United states has double standards on freedom of speech..but then again.. which nation doesn't??
Go to dallas or its surroundings and bad mouth the US(or paint your car pink and write "gay *** rules") and see if you aren't shot..
and chances are you'll be slapped with some sort of public offense in the process(probably not for the homo thing :P).
Do the same to the Quran in the middle of Times Square.. its "freedom of speech"..
Apparently Muslims dont have feeling.. or they arent that important in America.

on the other side of the coin..
Its ok to burn the American flag and chant foul words against them because of a woman whose whole story isnt clear one bit..all the while American pilots fly day and night to deliver relief goods all across your nation..
Apparently Americans don't have feeling.. they are "infidels" for Allah's sake.. but they can still help in the flood.. it doesn't matter in an Islamic Republic.

I don't have any qualms about admitting that the whole goddamn world has double standards.. but to be hypocritical and not admit them.. that aint right.
Lets just admit it..
In the end.. its human beings that are going against each other... faith, upbringing, education and other factors all play a part in shaping us.
Where these faltered... you get the man who burned the Quran in times square(wearing a T-shirt probably made in a Muslim country).. or the one who burned the American flag in Karachi(and went to KFC for dinner).

Sigh. I was not boasting so much as showing the difference between the dissemination of classified information by a retired military officer, and open political speech.

Did I ever imply that you were in a situation where you could not speak your mind? Or are you assuming that because I am American, I just automatically assume a snooty arrogance, because, well, that's the way those Americans are.

I've noticed something very interesting in my stay here the least few weeks. I am a fairly new member. When my account was activated, I had a U.S. and a Pakistani flag. I didn't think anything about it. Had some very good conversations, and was enjoying myself.

Then, someone pointed out what the flags mean, so I changed it. Almost immediately, I noticed that just about anything I wrote was challenged, usually on aspects that had nothing to do with the thread; straw-man arguments tossed out; I was assumed to be some smug, stupid, arrogant fool that needed to be shown "the truth." Nothing in my writing changed; just the flags.

Double U.S. flags here is the kiss of death!

Are you surprised? Whether this is right or wrong, surely you know enough about international politics to know why this happened.

No not surprised, more saddened than anything.

When people thought that someone intimately connected with Pakistan was writing stuff, there were "Thank you's" and PM's that were nicely complimentary.

When a born-and-raised U.S. citizen writes, there is suspicion and doubt; as if I had changed my style and topics immediately after the stupid flags changed. As if the content itself changed, which it didn't.

So if Chogy the Pakistani says "there isn't the slightest chance HAARP is responsible for anything other than simple ionospheric research" then that tends to be accepted. If Chogy the 100% American says the same thing, I'm either deluded, part of a giant cabal, or both.

That's just an example, but the effect is pronounced, noticeable, and not encouraging. :frown:

I hear what you are saying, and you are right. Humans are tribal creatures. We have progressed from little villages where anyone outside is an enemy, to the "Nation-State." We trust our own more than an outsider.

For our own well-being as a species, we've got to progress beyond that. I'd like to think open communication on a medium like this is a good start.

Thinking on the "UFO" thread, it is a fantasy, but a threat from another world would do more to bring us together than 1,000 years of detente. We'd realize how trivial our differences are when some weird tentacled creatures (like the guys from "Independence Day") show up, and are hostile. :flame:

You need to learn a little more... The world has changed since the nineties... and continues to change even more.. If Chogy the Pakistani says something that seems pro west these days, he would only get compliments from the pro west secularists within the Pakistani community... The rest will still consider you with suspicion... It has nothing to do with your nationality...
